Fabrizio Romano has now revealed a big update on the future of Angel Gomes, which boosts Tottenham’s hopes of landing the young England midfielder in the summer.
Gomes has emerged as one of the best midfielders in Ligue 1 over the past couple of years, and the Lille man is unsurprisingly attracting a lot of interest across the Premier League as his contract at Lille winds down this summer.
Reports over recent days have claimed that Tottenham are stepping up efforts to sign Angel Gomes ahead of their Premier League rivals, with Ange Postecoglou‘s side identifying the player as their top midfield target.
In fact, it has been suggested that Spurs have already made an offer to Gomes, who is now free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a non-French club ahead of the summer.
Fabrizio Romano provides major Angel Gomes’ update
Fabrizio Romano has now taken to social media to state that the England international has changed his representation ahead of the summer, signing up with ROOF agency.
The Italian transfer market expert claims that this change has been made by Gomes in order to facilitate a summer move, with the player eying a fresh challenge in the summer.
Romano adds that the midfielder has already decided to leave Lille as a free agent and will decide his next move over the coming months.
Tottenham will face plenty of competition for Gomes
There is no doubt that a number of top sides across the Premier League will be eyeing Gomes, and Tottenham’s transfer pursuit may be made harder by the fact that they are unlikely to be in the Champions League.
However, the Englishman has the attributes to thrive in Spurs’ system, and Ange Postecoglou may be able to convince him of that, as he has done with a few other Tottenham transfer targets over the last 18 months.
Midfield is undoubtedly an area which Spurs have to strengthen in the summer and Gomes’s signing will be a step in the right direction in addressing the weaknesses in that area.
