Postecoglou ‘to axe Kulusevski for Tottenham v Man City’ as replacement named

Dejan Kulusevski could find himself on the bench when Tottenham host Manchester City on Wednesday.

Kulusevski has been one of Spurs’ better-performing players this season and scored in the 4-1 Premier League win against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday (22 February).

However, Postecoglou could take a risk and leave the Swede out against Manchester City in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday (26 February).

Postecoglou suddenly has a lot more options available to him with players returning from injury, even though every Spurs star isn’t quite yet ready.

As a result, there will be room for the Australian to rotate on Wednesday, and Kulusevski could be the player to make way.

James Maddison ‘to start for Tottenham v Manchester City’

James Maddison was left out of the starting lineup for Spurs’ win against Ipswich. However, the Englishman still managed to make an impact after coming on, assisting Djed Spence, before aiming a cheeky dig at Ipswich on social media after the match.

As a result, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – wants to see Maddison start against City, while he also doesn’t think Brennan Johnson can afford to be left out after the Welshman scored twice against Ipswich.

“I think Spence and Destiny Udogie will start together again,” Wenham said.

“With Ben Davies ruled out we’re probably looking at Kevin Danso and Archie Gray at centre-back. Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall seem to be the two in midfield that Postecoglou likes at the moment.

“Further forward, I think Maddison must start, especially after his two goals against City earlier this season at the Etihad. I also think his leadership skills will be useful in a game such as this one. After Johnson’s performance against Ipswich, it is hard to leave him out.

“I think Mathys Tel and Son Heung-min will both start, which means Kulusevski missing out. It is a dilemma for Postecoglou, but what a great dilemma to have.”

Maddison deserves a chance for Tottenham v Manchester City

Maddison is thought to have been unsettled this season by his rotation in and out of the team.

Therefore, this match against City is a perfect chance for Postecoglou to put his trust in the midfielder and offer him the opportunity to demonstrate to everybody what he is capable of.

In addition, considering the number of games he has started recently, it probably wouldn’t be the worst idea to give Kulusevski a rest with the UEFA Europa League on the horizon.
