Can Nico Paz take up James Maddison’s position at Tottenham?

There have been multiple high-profile youngsters linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and one of those has been among the rumours in the transfer mill lately as Spain born Argentine sensation Nico Paz, who has been thriving in Serie A this season.

Paz has shown capabilities of being a strong presence in the middle of the park at Como, and he has reportedly caught the attention of the Lilywhites scouts, who, by the reports around, look very keen on bringing the 20-year-old to Hotspur Way when the summer window comes around.

The Argentina international is having a huge impact at Como 1907, and he is certainly one of the brightest talents in the league.

He is someone who is agile and fast in the middle, and if you complement that with that tall stature of his, it becomes difficult to get in a duel with him.

And then he receives the ball, and he starts getting into his own… making offensive runs, creating those chances with needle-perfect passes.

His vision is something. He does get into the right spaces to score goals, and he could have added so much more to his six goals and five assists this season with a bit more clinicality.

But he is still raw, and that should come as he starts developing.

As Tottenham try to bring the Argentina international to N17, former North Londoners star Dele Alli can go on to play a huge role for Spurs to sign him.

Alli is playing at Como at the moment, and former Lilywhites scout Bryan King insists that the England international will likely have conversations with Paz about his experiences at Tottenham and can try to put in a good word to influence his decision.

“I’m sure that Alli will have words with Paz. He will no doubt be very interested to hear what Alli has to say about life at Tottenham.

I’d imagine the starting price for Paz will be around £12million, and that could reach a figure of £20m if he is as successful as everyone hopes he will be.

“Perhaps a pre-season game with Como will be included in that deal too. That would be of big interest to the club, and of big interest to Alli, who would be able to make a wonderful return to Tottenham.”

    Midfield revamp at N17

Tottenham have been looking to add options in the middle of the park, and the potential arrival of Paz can add much-needed creative spark to the squad.

There have been reports about Rodrigo Bentancur being handed a lucrative contract at N17; it will have a domino effect on others like Yves Bissouma, whose future at the club is uncertain.

And this creates space in the roster for Levy to bag on fresh talent.

Can Nico Paz replace James Maddison at Tottenham?

There have been a lot of questions raised on Maddison and his credentials to play for one of the Premier League’s elites. So when the Lilywhites target a creative outlet like Paz, a general question raised is if he will replace the former Foxes maestro…

Paz has been known for his versatile profile given how he can be deployed as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder, or a winger, and then you can see that he possesses this technical elegance with his excellent control of the ball, his dribbling, and those precise passes mentioned earlier.

And given his age and potential, he does fit into the North Londoners recently adapted strategy to bring in young and dynamic talent into their squad at Hotspur Way.

And he could bring in many tactical variations for Postecoglou. But where does he stand with Maddison?

James Maddison is an important part of that dressing room at Hotspur Way, and time and again he has been celebrated for his creativity, vision, and goal-scoring (even if inconsistently, but he does do the job).

And the England international does bring that Premier League-proven track record that puts much weight on the squad, while Paz offers you that young spirit and the adaptability across multiple midfield roles.

Bringing in Paz can allow for rotational strategies and reduce the burden on Maddison for now.

He wouldn’t be a direct replacement for Maddison; given the talent Paz has, he can bring in that depth at the moment and then transition into a regular role over a year or two.

As a die-hard Spurs fan, I have a deep passion for the best club in London.

With 10 plus years of experience following the team closely, I offer insightful analysis and commentary on the latest news, tactics, and results.
