Since moving to Stellenbosch FC from Swallows in 2022, Fawaaz Basadien has become one of the most dependable left-backs in South Africa. When the now-defunct Swallows sold him, they included a 30% sell-on clause in his contract. The 28-year-old Stellies star wants to move back to Soweto. The left-back role has been a job-share at the Winelands side this season.

Basadien has made 32 appearances across all competitions with 16 in the league, with three goals and three assists. Former Chiefs youngster Omega Mdaka, still only 21, has also been heavily involved with 14 appearances across all competitions. If Stellies feel that Basadien wants to leave, they already have a replacement lined up and he’s in their first XI already. Kaizer Chiefs will be delighted to see how Mdaka has matured, although that’s a bittersweet one for them to swallow as he came through their development ranks.

Chiefs promote Nkgwesa

19-year-old utility defence Kabelo Nkgwesa has been promoted to the club’s first-team setup. With Happy Mashiane failing to impress when given a chance at left-back, Bradley Cross is the club’s only genuine option in that position. Edmilson Dove, just back from injury, is the wrong side of 30 and a natural central defender. The thinking is that Basadien would be the incumbent in the left-back position.

19-year-old Amakhosi DDC star, Kabelo Nkgwesa has just been promoted into the first team. Meaning, he is now Chiefs’ newest player.

Mscsports Talent just posted the following captain on X:

“The utility defender has signed a contract with the senior side. Congrats to Kabelo Nkgwesa who’s been rewarded with a Kaizer Chiefs contract after impressing management with his outstanding performances in the current DDC campaign,” the statement on X read.

So, he is set to provide some support at the back.

LEFT BACK ASSURANCE

Specifically, at left back following the departure of Thatayaone Ditlhokwe. Bradley Cross has struggled to solidify his place in the starting line-up.

Meanwhile, Happy Mashiane is trying to revive his career. Furthermore, Edmilson Dove has recently returned to Chiefs following a long injury lay-off. However, Dove is one of several Chiefs stars facing a likely departure out of Naturena at the end of the season

Therefore, the addition of Nkgwesa will bring in extra assurance at left-back. He follows in the footsteps of exciting DDC stars who have recently been promoted into Chiefs senior side.

Kaizer Chiefs fans are loosing their patience with striker Ranga Chivaviro. Nasreddine Nabi lists what he needs to do.

It’s been another season to forget for Kaizer Chiefs centre-forward Ranga Chivaviro.

The 32-year-old endured another blunder during last night’s 1-0 victory of Magesi, failing to convert several chances, including one from inside the box that led to his swift substitution.

Chivaviro has been a shadow of his former self, unconvincing in front of goal and unable to provide assists, recording one in the last two seasons.

Limpopo’s big man has been far from threatening, scoring seven goals in his last thirty-six league games—this season’s stat line reads three goals in sixteen appearances.

Kaizer Chiefs signed Chivaviro on the back of his prolific 2022/23 season, scoring seven in ten CAF Confederation outings and ten in nineteen PSL games – the Glamour Boys thought they had landed a talisman; now their fans boo him off the pitch.

Kaizer Chiefs Nasreddine Nabi didn’t mince his words on Chivaviro’s current form following last-nights hard-fought victory, saying, “To play in teams like Kaizer Chiefs, you need to have a big mentality, a strong mindset, because it is a team with a lot of fans. That means the criticism comes very easily, and that’s why you need to be very strong mentally.

“Even when you are at your lowest, you need to stay focused, stay mentally strong, and we hope that Ranga is understanding that. He needs to see that a strong mentality is essential to play for these kinds of teams.”

If Chivaviro continues to underperform, he could be out the door before the start of next season.
