Mike Dean reacts to Everton v West Ham United controversy on Sky Sports

Everton were involved in more penalty controversy against West Ham United on Saturday.

David Moyes extended his side’s eight-match unbeaten run in the Premier League against his former employers, with Jake O’Brien rescuing a point at the very end to finish 1-1.

The turnaround in form under the Scotsman has been nothing short of remarkable, but the Blues could have been ahead after being handed a penalty in the first half.

Max Kilman was adjudged to have fouled Beto, but replays revealed the striker actually kicked the floor.

Moyes has the Blues on a great run of form.

On the verge of half-time, Toffees striker Beto went down in the penalty area under challenge from Kilman and Konstantinos Mavropanos and referee Darren Bond pointed to the spot.

However, he was referred to the screen and reversed his original decision with a lack of significant contact from either defender on the Guinea-Bissau forward.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News (15 March, 15:45), Mike Dean was baffled by the original call, saying: “He’s [Beto] actually kicked the floor and gone down and the ref has given a pen.

“It just can’t be, it has to be a drop ball, it’s just not a penalty.

    “I shouldn’t laugh but it’s a terrible call.”

Beto was adjudged to have went down too easily.

Everton need to carry on their momentum

While the Blues have been on a remarkable unbeaten streak in the league under Moyes, four of the last five matches have been drawn with the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace (15 February) being the only victory.

The Merseysiders need to start securing wins, especially in their final few matches at Goodison Park as they are set to move to the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium at the end of the campaign.

The Blues need to give their famous old home a good send-off before they make the switch and they also need to keep momentum heading into next season.

Moyes will be desperate to turn these draws into wins, especially at Goodison Park, with reminders of the Sean Dyche era creeping in on Merseyside.

Despite that, it is still an exciting time to be on the blue half of Merseyside off the pitch with the stadium move and the Friedkin Group set to bankroll a revolution to the playing squad, Everton need to keep up the positivity on the pitch and get back to winning ways as the season grinds to a close.
