It has been two seasons since Harry Kane departed Tottenham Hotspur for Bayern Munich. Now, he believes his move to Germany has given him a greater aura and put him firmly in contention for football’s biggest individual honour.

Since swapping North London for Bavaria, Harry Kane has been nothing short of prolific. The Bayern Munich forward has registered 99 goal involvements in just 82 games, proving his quality on the biggest stage.

Despite his stunning individual form, silverware continues to elude him. Bayer Leverkusen’s exceptional 2023/24 campaign denied Bayern yet another Bundesliga title, leaving Kane still in search of his first major club honour.

Yet, while the wait for a trophy goes on, Kane’s stock has undoubtedly risen in the footballing world.

Now, in an interview, Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time top scorer has revealed that since moving to Bayern, he feels “more respected” and believes the transfer has elevated his status. He also thinks it has put him firmly in the Ballon d’Or conversation.

Speaking to The Standard, Harry Kane explained: “Just being at a club like Bayern Munich has helped push me on even more, confidence-wise and responsibility-wise.

“Sometimes, when you’re playing in these types of teams where you’re getting loads of chances, when you‘re expected to score 30, 40 a season, that’s an expectation I like to have. It almost puts more pressure on myself to perform.

“I feel like I’ve definitely got better, I’ve improved, and maybe the aura of me as a player is a bit more respected than what it has been in the past, because you’re playing in big games, big nights.”

Kane also made it clear that winning major silverware would make him a genuine contender for the most prestigious individual award in football: the Ballon d’Or.

“One hundred per cent,” he said. “I felt that last season as well. I scored over 40 goals, but obviously, I was never going to win the Ballon d’Or because we didn’t win the team trophies.”

While Kane continues to shine on the big stage, Tottenham Hotspur’s performances have nosedived.

Currently, Spurs sit 14th in the Premier League table, a staggering 15 points off fourth place and 10 points away from mid-table.

It’s no surprise that Kane is thriving at Bayern. Time and again, we’ve seen players leave Spurs and go on to lift major honours. He now looks like he could soon join that list, especially given Bayern’s usual dominance in German football.
