Hammers striker Michail Antonio not expected back this season

West Ham star Michail Antonio return update emerges after horrific injury

West Ham attacker Michail Antonio is understood to be ahead of schedule with his recovery, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The Jamaica international had a horrific car crash that raised question marks on the future of his playing career.

The injury expert claims that it was a very serious setback but that he is on the path to recovery.

While there is some positivity over Antonio returning before the final week of May, rushing him back does make very little sense.

A more likely return timeline is next season as he would’ve been able to test the leg more and get his fitness back.

Speaking exclusively with West Ham Zone, Dr Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said: “

It sounds like he is ahead of schedule – two to three months according to the player himself – but this also sounds like a very serious injury.

“I wouldn’t expect him to be back this season as he will need a significant ramp-up period.

“Perhaps expect him next season as he’s able to get his fitness back and test the leg more.

“We don’t really know the severity of the injury so it’s hard to say where he currently sits in his recovery.“

Graham Potter and West Ham do not desperately need Michail Antonio to return

Rushing Antonio back from his severe car crash injury would be a grave mistake for West Ham, as Dr Brar warns it could aggravate his condition.

The Jamaica international’s recovery, while ahead of schedule, demands a cautious approach given the injury’s seriousness and the lengthy ramp-up period needed to regain fitness and test his leg.

Pushing him prematurely risks setbacks, potentially jeopardising his career.

Moreover, with the Hammers unlikely to have significant objectives left this season – neither chasing Europe nor battling relegation – there’s little justification for haste and Graham Potter can instead give a chance to the younger players.

Preserving Antonio’s health for a full return next season outweighs any short-term gain, especially when the Hammers can afford to let him heal properly.
