Tottenham have long been credited with an interest in Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, who is expected to be on the move this summer. Cunha penned a new deal with Wolves but agreed a release clause of £62.5 million with the Midlands club, allowing him to move on if a big club comes calling.
Spurs will likely have to meet that fee if they want him, and Give Me Sport claim they do. Arsenal were heavily linked with Cunha, but they seem to be prioritising Benjamin Sesko, and indeed Alexander Isak if he becomes available.
Cunha may become available as a result, and Tottenham may have a relatively free run at him depending on interest elsewhere, even if the fee is high.
Spurs spent £55million on Dominic Solanke, so they would be paying even more for another striker, albeit one that can play across the front line. One of the main reasons Cunha is attractive to Premier League clubs is because he has already proven his threat in the top flight and would not need time to adapt to the league.
The Brazilian has so far scored 15 and assisted four across all competitions for a struggling Wolves side this season.
Pundit Micah Richards previously said of Cunha on Match of the Day: “Gary O’Neil talked about getting him to to a position where he can affect the game and he was sort of playing as a left-centre.
His football IQ is absolutely sensational. He’s the one who can unlock the doors. He finds the little pockets of space and makes the right decisions at the right times.
“He’s always scanning where he needs to be and always plays the right pass. He is so key in what Wolves are trying to do. He is the best at everything. Off the ball, he can do a little bit more – but on the ball, he is certainly the main man in this team.”
Another player Wolves are being linked with, and indeed another Wolves player, is midfielder Joao Gomes, who was just called up to the Brazil squad. Gomes joined Wolves in 2023 for around £15million and he has been a regular since, still only 24 years of age.
The same report claims Spurs would be interested in signing Gomes, who is valued at around £50million. That would make it a combined spending fee of £112.5million if Tottenham wanted both players.
Gomes doesn’t have a release clause and is under terms until at least 2028, with Wolves also holding a one-year extension option, meaning they can stand firm by their asking price, especially given they are likely to preserve their Premier League status. Gomes has made 31 appearances this season, scoring four times and providing two assists.
