Kelvin Banks Signs with Arizona Cardinals Over Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears Ahead of the 2025 NFL Season

In a major move for the Arizona Cardinals, the team has successfully secured offensive tackle Kelvin Banks ahead of the 2025 NFL season. The coveted prospect, who was widely regarded as one of the top offensive line prospects, has decided to join the Cardinals, choosing them over notable suitors such as the Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears. This decision could significantly reshape the Cardinals’ offensive line for the upcoming season.

Kelvin Banks, a standout player at the University of Texas, has impressed scouts and coaches alike with his combination of size, strength, and agility. Standing at 6’4” and weighing in at 320 pounds, Banks is a physically imposing presence on the field, known for his ability to protect the quarterback and open up lanes for the running game. Throughout his college career, Banks showcased elite pass-blocking skills, which were a key factor in his decision to forgo his final year of eligibility and enter the NFL draft.

His signing represents a significant move for the Arizona Cardinals, who have struggled in recent years with offensive line consistency. In 2024, the team ranked among the bottom third of the league in terms of sack rate and rushing yards per game, with their offensive line often being cited as one of the main reasons for these struggles. By adding Banks to the roster, the Cardinals hope to improve both their pass protection and their ability to establish a successful ground game, giving their quarterback and running backs a much-needed boost.

    Why Arizona?

Banks’ decision to sign with the Arizona Cardinals was influenced by several key factors. Most notably, the Cardinals were one of the few teams willing to offer him a chance to start immediately. With a revamped coaching staff and an emphasis on developing young talent, Arizona presented a clear path for Banks to secure a starting role from day one. The opportunity to work with head coach Jonathan Gannon, who has quickly built a reputation for nurturing young players, was also a compelling factor in his decision.

Banks acknowledged that the Cardinals’ commitment to building a competitive team and their emphasis on developing players was a key factor in his choice. The team’s proximity to his home state of Texas was also an important consideration, as Banks felt that staying in the western part of the country would allow him to stay close to family while still pursuing his professional career.

The Panthers and Bears Miss Out

The Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears were also in the running to sign Banks, but ultimately fell short. The Panthers, who have been focused on rebuilding their offensive line in recent seasons, were particularly disappointed. They have invested heavily in their offense, including selecting rookie quarterback Bryce Young as their franchise signal-caller. Adding an elite offensive tackle like Banks would have been a major win for Carolina’s development plans.

The Chicago Bears, who had the most cap space in the league during the offseason, were another top contender for Banks’ services. After making significant moves to upgrade their roster, including the signing of several key free agents, the Bears saw Banks as a potential building block for their future. However, despite their efforts, Banks ultimately decided that Arizona was the better fit for his goals.
