The Alonso Ravens will square off against the Wharton Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Alonso is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they’ve averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Alonso hadn’t beaten Sickles on the road since February 24, 2018 but that history sure didn’t bother them on Thursday. The Ravens were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Gryphons. The result was nothing new for the Ravens, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Karina Lozada made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. That’s the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter’s box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Sophia Gunnin was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Emily Araujo was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Alonso hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Wharton was able to grind out a solid victory over Chamberlain on Tuesday, taking the game 5-1. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Storm: they’ve now won five in a row.
Alonso has been performing well recently as they’ve won six of their last eight contests. That’s provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Wharton, their win bumped their record up to 8-9.
