In an unexpected development, sources indicate that Texas Tech men’s basketball head coach Grant McCasland is preparing to step down after receiving a highly lucrative offer from a competing program. Though the name of the rival school remains under wraps, the financial terms are believed to be extremely attractive.

Since taking the reins in March 2023, McCasland has had a strong influence on the Red Raiders, leading the team to a 22-9 overall record and an 11-7 finish in the Big 12 during his first season—an impressive rebound from the prior year. His leadership has been a driving force behind Texas Tech’s resurgence on the national college basketball stage.

Before arriving in Lubbock, McCasland found success at North Texas, compiling a 135-65 record over six seasons and capturing the 2023 NIT championship. His proven track record and coaching reputation have made him one of the most respected figures in the sport.

With his potential exit looming, questions are beginning to emerge about the direction of Texas Tech basketball. Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt has previously emphasized McCasland’s importance to the program and expressed optimism about his ongoing commitment, citing the momentum the coach has helped generate.

Should McCasland move on, the university is expected to launch a national search for his successor—one who can sustain the program’s upward trajectory and build on the solid foundation he’s helped establish.

Stay connected to Texas Tech’s official announcements and trusted sports media for further updates on this developing story.
