Dan Bylsma Expected to Step Down as Seattle Kraken Head Coach Following Major Offer from Rival Team

Seattle, WA – In a surprising turn of events that could have league-wide implications, Seattle Kraken head coach Dan Bylsma is reportedly preparing to resign after receiving a highly attractive, multi-year offer from a competing NHL team.

Bylsma, who assumed head coaching duties for the Kraken prior to the 2024–25 season, is said to be weighing the offer seriously. Sources familiar with the matter describe the deal as “too compelling to turn down,” citing both the financial incentives and the strategic vision presented by the rival organization. Reports indicate the offer may include broad authority over hockey operations and a long-term project that closely matches Bylsma’s coaching ideals.

Though Bylsma has not officially resigned, several sources confirm he has made the Kraken front office aware of his intentions. Discussions are reportedly underway to plan a smooth leadership transition.

This development arrives at a critical moment for Seattle. Following another disappointing season without a playoff berth, Bylsma had been expected to spearhead a vital rebuild. His possible exit now introduces a level of uncertainty around the franchise’s direction moving forward.

Bylsma’s coaching career features a Stanley Cup championship with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009 and a stint with the Buffalo Sabres. Prior to joining Seattle’s NHL squad, he led their AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, to impressive performances—earning a reputation as a steady, experienced leader well-suited for emerging teams.

While the rival franchise remains unnamed, speculation points to several Eastern Conference clubs currently in flux. League analysts note Bylsma’s strengths in player development and team-building make him a valuable asset for any team seeking to reset its culture.

The Kraken have not made an official statement on Bylsma’s potential departure, simply emphasizing their commitment to building a competitive and sustainable organization.

Further updates are expected in the near future as the situation unfolds.
