Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a major setback in their pursuit of Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané. The 29-year-old German international is now said to favor a move to Arsenal over Spurs, despite earlier reports linking him with a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Sané, who has just one year left on his contract with Bayern, has yet to agree on an extension. As a result, the Bundesliga giants are open to selling him this summer rather than losing him on a free transfer next year.
Tottenham were initially optimistic about securing Sané. Reports claimed the winger was open to a move to North London, and club chairman Daniel Levy has a strong relationship with the player’s agent. That connection had boosted Spurs’ hopes of finalizing a deal.
However, recent updates suggest that Sané has little interest in joining Tottenham. Instead, he is more attracted to the project at Arsenal, where manager Mikel Arteta has built a young and exciting squad. The Gunners can also offer Champions League football — something Spurs cannot match at the moment.
Sané’s preference is a blow for Tottenham, who are actively looking to strengthen their attack this summer. They may now have to shift focus to other targets as the transfer window heats up.
For Arsenal, this could be a major coup. If they manage to sign Sané, he would add pace, creativity, and experience to their frontline. A move to the Emirates would also reunite him with the Premier League, where he previously impressed during his time at Manchester City.
A deal is not yet done, but Arsenal are clearly in the driving seat — and Tottenham must now regroup.
