Daniel Levy’s decision to sign off on a season ticket increase at Tottenham has been described as “not ideal” by Alan Hutton.
On Wednesday, March 6, Tottenham announced on their official website that season tickets at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will now cost six percent more. This move has drawn criticism from the team’s fan base.
In fact, the season ticket at the lowest price is now £856 instead of £807, which has left the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust “hugely disappointed” (BBC Sport, 7 March).
Hutton, a former Tottenham defender, recognized that football is a business when he spoke exclusively to Tottenham News, but he objected to price hikes at a time when supporters were already dealing with increased living expenses.
“Aren’t those London prices? Everything there is pricey; I’ve been down there myself,” he remarked.
“However, season ticket holders that I know down there tell me how much it costs—it’s unbelievable.” They play a fantastic type of football and, ideally, will also be playing Champions League games. The stadium is incredible, as are the facilities.
“But I think when it comes to ticket prices with everything that’s going on in the world right now it must be very hard, especially if you’re travelling, it’s obviously not ideal.
“You’d like to see them being frozen and staying at a particular price even for a number of years so people know exactly what’s going on.
“I’m not a fan of raising prices but that’s the business side of football and they’re going to try and get as much out of it as possible.”

Everyone understands that everything is more expensive in London so, to an extent, the fact that prices are At Tottenham, being high is almost a given.
However, it seems needless to raise costs by 6% at a time when consumers are dealing with other price increases and the club is doing so well financially.
Though the likelihood of that happening seems relatively low, you would hope there would be some conversation with supporters and maybe a rethink on this one.
Since fans are the lifeblood of the football team, it is logical that they are deeply disappointed by this choice.
In other Tottenham news, Levy has received recognition for choosing a different course of action.
