BREAKING: The NFL has suspended the San Francisco 49ers’ star player without pay for the rest of the season.
Due to a payroll miscalculation, the NFL has penalized the San Francisco 49ers by removing a 2025 draft pick and dropping another for the next round.
The move came as the league completed its investigation into the team’s accounting mistakes dating back to 2022, which revealed that the 49ers had misreported the team’s total player salary. As a result of the mishap, they have forfeited their fifth-round pick in 2025.
In terms of more immediate consequences, San Francisco has learned that their fourth-round pick in this year’s draft has been moved down from No. 131 to No. 135. The NFL’s decision currently leaves the 49ers with 10 picks in all, including Nos. 124, 132, and
Giving extra explanation to the discovered blunder, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero took to Twitter/X to explain that the 49ers remained under the salary cap despite the mistake. He also said that the five-time Super Bowl champions had shown no intent to break any rules.
The NFL later issued a statement providing additional information on their investigation and the findings that resulted from their probe into the error. Concluding the event and imposing the fine, they stated: “This action resulted from a league review that discovered administrative payroll accounting errors at the end of the 2022 league year, resulting in a misreporting of the club’s cumulative player compensation.”
“The NFL found that the club would have remained within the salary cap at all times, regardless of the error, and that there was no effort to avoid the cap.”
