The Tottenham midfielder has been speaking about his season and what the club is capable of under the management of Ange Postecoglou
Yves Bissouma, who plays for Tottenham, has acknowledged that he has made mistakes this season, but he is enthusiastic about what the team may accomplish under Ange Postecoglou.
The 27-year-old’s season with the Spurs has been uneven. He began the year on fire, but two red cards and a ban for receiving five yellow cards caused him to miss games. In January, he also traveled to Mali for the Africa Cup of Nations. Bissouma has not performed as well as he did in the first part of the season under Postecoglou, and he was recently dropped from the Mali team and replaced at halftime of Tottenham’s Sunday victory against Nottingham Forest.
“This season started really good. Then after we were restricted because of a lot of injuries and suspensions, things like that put us in a difficult position. Sometimes I make mistakes, because I’m not perfect and still learning, so I know there’s more to come, but I’m happy and enjoying this role in the team,” Bissouma said in an interview in Spurs’ matchday programme for the game against Luton.
“I have to enjoy this moment and make the most of it as it’s where I’m fully in control, where I feel strong and feel like myself. I feel free, so I’m enjoying my moment but, in the end, I don’t want to have any regrets so I always fight to feel good.”
The midfielder also had a tough time last season under Antonio Conte following his £30m move from Brighton, struggling to get game time and then suffering an ankle injury, but he set out to change things under Postecoglou last summer, which brought that improvement in those early months of the campaign.
“I take full responsibility when it’s time to work to change things. Like when I was injured at the end of last season, I was already preparing for this one,” he said. “For me, personally, when Ange came in, he told me exactly what he wants from me and my role in the team. I’m just listening and working hard to perform in the way he wants me to and I’m really happy to work with him and the group.”
On his role under Postecoglou, looking to turn and beat the opposition press, he added: “It’s the way I like to play and it’s always good because it suits my style. l really like to receive the ball, turn and try to find a solution. If it’s not on then I’ll dribble to make space and find a solution. My role is to get the ball and try to find a solution for my team-mates It’s really fun, I’m enjoying this role a lot.
“To be on the pitch in the Premier League is great for me because I’m in one of the best leagues in the world. I’ve worked over the years to hone my style of play and I want to continue playing in this way.”
Bissouma is excited about the number of talented young players in this Spurs squad and he believes they will reach the top under the new head coach.
“We’re going to work really hard to put the team where we want to be because this team deserves a lot. I feel that with the abundance of talented young players we have, we can do great things. I know we will eventually reach our goals, therefore I’m not concerned about the club’s future,” he remarked.
“It’s a blessing to be here, and I’m enjoying my time here. This club means everything to me. Being a Spurs player is such a big deal. Not only am I doing this for myself, but also for the team, the supporters, my family, and the general public. The most crucial aspect of both life and football, in my opinion, is that I love everyone here and feel love in return from them all. All I want for this club is the greatest.”
