Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a setback in their quest to beat Aston Villa to the fourth spot in the Premier League table.
In the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur has fallen to Newcastle United 4-0 away from home at St. James’ Park.
At the half-hour mark, Newcastle took the lead thanks to Alexander Isak, a player that Tottenham’s North London rivals Arsenal are keeping an eye on. In the second half, he scored once more.
On minute thirty-two, Anthony Gordon, who was linked to Tottenham prior to moving to Newcastle from Everton in January 2023, scored the game’s first goal for the Magpies.
While Newcastle celebrated their two goals in the first half, Micky van de Ven of Tottenham was a man very disappointed.
The season has seen Spurs perform well, but the Dutch international central defense was the cause of Newcastle’s opening two goals.
After Isak approached him for the first goal, the £34.5 million (The Guardian) center-back lost his balance and was forced to the ground by Gordon two minutes later.
Pat Nevin, a former winger for Chelsea and Everton, was listening to BBC Radio 5 Live during the game and was not impressed with Van van Ven’s performance.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven criticised vs Newcastle United
“Ange Postecoglou was furious before the goals; Tottenham had 68% of the possession and you cannot believe that is the case – Newcastle have been so slick going forward,” Nevin stated regarding Van de Ven on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Micky van de Ven is a talented player, but right now he’s living the bad dream. He must either swap out his studs, try something new, or be replaced.
Encouraging result for Aston Villa
Since Tottenham Hotspur lost, it is a major setback for the team, and Villa will now be much more motivated to win this weekend.
This season, the Villans want to surpass Spurs and take fourth place in the league standings.
Sunday’s Premier League match between Villa and Arsenal will take place away from home at the Emirates Stadium in North London.
Although Arsenal is the clear favorite going into the game, the Villans will now be even more motivated to defeat the Gunners and win all three points.
