Ange’s Choice: Tottenham agrees direct loan swoop for ‘revitalized striker’

Tottenham prepare surprise loan swoop for revitalised striker who’s already said yes to Postecoglou

Tottenham hope to have Timo Werner back in their squad next season, though a new report claims they’ll attempt to cajole RB Leipzig into a second loan spell rather than trigger their modest option to buy.

In January, 28-year-old Werner committed to a six-month loan with Tottenham. His entry coincided with a dire dearth of options for Ange Postecoglou in the closing third.

Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon were both hurt, and Perisic was about to rejoin Hajduk Split in Croatia nonetheless. Captain Son Heung-min had left for South Korea’s Asian Cup international duties.

Some people were surprised by Werner’s return to the Premier League, mainly because of how difficult his last English stay at Chelsea had been.

Since joining Tottenham, Werner has regrettably continued to be wasteful in front of goal. Postecoglou has benefited greatly from his energy, drive, willingness to stretch defenses in behind, and positional versatility, though.

Thus far, the striker has mainly been used on the left wing in north London, demonstrating the last of those qualities.

The loan arrangement with Tottenham includes a roughly £15 million buyout option. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Werner would be thrilled if Spurs exercised that option.

Werner says yes to longer Spurs stay

Timo Werner wants to stay at Tottenham, and the team will make that decision closer to the end of the campaign rather than right now, Romano stated to Caught Offside last week.

As for news, we have nothing to add because that is the club’s position and there is nothing we can do about it.

“Spurs want to talk things through and take their time, maybe around May. Werner is content at Tottenham, but the team has the last say.

Spurs manager Ancel Postecoglou has, however, made it clear that he would also prefer if Tottenham exercised the option.

During a press conference earlier in April, Postecoglou declared, “He’s been a great signing, in my opinion.” “He’s played a crucial role in our organization.”

However, rather than signing the player on a permanent basis, Tottenham will try to work out a second loan deal with Leipzig, according to a recent report from HITC.

According to them, Werner’s loan will be extended by Spurs to cover the entire 2024–2025 season. It’s not yet apparent if Leipzig would be open to such a move.

Leipzig is not under any immediate pressure to cash in as long as Werner is under contract there until 2026.

However, the German club would not benefit in the short term from delaying a decision on Werner’s future.

Because of this, any subsequent loan arrangement might involve a purchase obligation rather than just a choice.
