He’s a ticking time B*MB: Club legend discourages Tottenham on player pursuits

‘I’m not so sure he takes Spurs to the next level’: Tottenham urged not to sign 24-year-old

Former Tottenham shot-stopper Paul Robinson has shared his thoughts on the club’s pursuit of Ben Johnson.

In preparation for the upcoming campaign, Tottenham Hotspur is trying to bolster their defense. Because Ange Postecoglou believes his team lacks defensive depth, they have been searching for players who can support them.

Ben Johnson of West Ham United has been connected to the North London club. Although the 24-year-old is adaptable and can play defense anyplace, Robinson isn’t sold on the concept. He believes Johnson won’t be able to have an impact on the Spurs starting lineup. Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie are both fully fit, so it seems unlikely that the versatile defender will start.

Paul Robinson said to Tottenham News: “I’m not so sure he takes Spurs to the next level where they want to get to, and a deal between Spurs and West Ham it may not go down too well with the fans. He’d have to hit the ground running to win a lot of the supporters over.

“I think he’d be a good addition to the squad, put it that way, but I don’t think he’d have an immediate impact on the starting XI.”

Robinson believes that the 24-year-old will need to make an immediate impression on the Spurs supporters as they may not be fond of his arrival. More significantly, though, the former Tottenham goalie thinks Johnson won’t support the team in moving forward.

He will undoubtedly strengthen their team by giving their defense more depth, but his impact on the team won’t be felt right away.

Although the Hammers defender won’t make a significant difference in Tottenham’s starting lineup, his arrival might provide Postecoglou additional choices. Johnson will be a free agent in the summer, and Spurs could see this as a fantastic chance to enhance their roster.
