Given his play style and attributes, Dutch football agent Simon Cziommer has predicted that Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven will sign for Manchester City.
With 26 matches under his belt, the 23-year-old Netherlands international joined Spurs from Bundesliga team VfL Wolfsburg last summer and has since established himself as an important member of boss Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
In the Premier League, the “sensational” Van de Ven has made an immediate impression, and Cziommer is confident he has what it takes to play for the defending champions.
“I think if he goes on like this, he wouldn’t be out of place at City,” he said.
“Guardiola plays with seven, eight men for the ball, leaving you in the back with one/two defenders. Then you need speed and duel power. And Van de Ven has that.”
Since joining Spurs, Van van Ven has further demonstrated his versatility by starting some games at left defense and putting up strong performances there.
Having contributed three league goals, he may begin to draw a lot of interest in the future.
If he continues to impress Postecoglou, Tottenham will not want to lose such a player anytime soon and may offer him a better contract in the upcoming months.
Due to their 2-0 loss to Man City last night, the Lilywhites will not be participating in the Champions League next season and will not be in the top four.
Postecoglou will be driven to make sure Tottenham improves the next season after their unsteady play in the second half of 2023–24 proved costly.
To do so, they will need to hold onto Van van Ven and their best players past this summer. If they want to be competitive for big awards in the future, they will also need to add to their roster and make great hires.
