West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan might just be regretting his decision to appoint Julen Lopetegui already.

Julen Lopetegui will be announced as the man to replace David Moyes at West Ham imminently, after David Sullivan made the decision to offer the Spaniard a two-year deal worth around £7 million.

Lopetegui has a huge task on his hands at the London Stadium, with a huge rebuild needed, and the 57-year-old is apparently already deep in conversation with Tim Steidten about his potential transfer targets.

He has grand plans to take the Hammers to the Champions League, and that would obviously be incredible if it happened.

The Spaniard is well-renowned for being an astute tactician, and he enjoyed spells in charge of Sevilla, Porto, Real Madrid, the Spain national team and most recently, Wolves.

He actually performed pretty well in all of those roles aside from the Spain and Real Madrid jobs.

However, West Ham may well be one of his biggest challenges yet.

Is he capable of taking us to the promised land? Only time will tell, but I think Sullivan might have jumped the gun too soon in appointing him…

David Sullivan might regret Julen Lopetegui appointment already

Whilst the Spaniard is seen as a fairly good appointment for the Hammers, it is somewhat of a safe play by Sullivan.

Lopetegui is a very steady manager, and I have become more keen on him over the past couple of weeks after doing my own research into his footballing philosophy.

He’s certainly an upgrade on Moyes, and those who don’t believe that need to study the Spaniard’s work more thoroughly.

However, there is no doubt that Sullivan could have been a tad more ambitious when appointing a replacement for Moyes.

And now the latest news may well leave the Hammers owner in a state of regret…

Mauricio Pochettino left Chelsea by mutual consent last night (Telegraph), and had Sullivan waited just a couple of weeks more, he may well have been able to bring the Argentinian to the London Stadium.

Remember, it was claimed last year that the 52-year-old was keen on the Hammers job, and that he’s keen on the idea of managing a London club.

Now that Poch has left Chelsea, he would have at least been available and free for talks.

I strongly feel that David Sullivan may well be regretting having pulled the trigger on the Julen Lopetegui appointment so quickly.
