Here we go: The six Kaizer Chiefs players who will be out of contract in 2025

FARPost looks at the six Kaizer Chiefs players who will be out of contract in June 2025 and discusses their future with the club.

Chiefs picked a vital win over Richards Bay FC in Polokwane despite playing with one man down for much of the second half in a midweek Betway Premiership tie.

The win saw them move to sixth place on the Betway Premiership standings ahead of another home fixture set for the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

    Reeve Frosler

The right-back joined Amakhosi in January 2019 on a three-and-a-half-year deal. He was handed a new three-year contract in 2022 that expires in June 2025.

The extension came after he played a role in the CAF Champions League campaign that saw the Soweto giants reach the final of the prestigious competition in 2021. The 26-year-old has started eight games under Nasreddine Nabi and provided one assist. His regular starts under Nabi signal his importance to the Tunisian coach’s plans. In 145 appearances, he has 10 assists and two goals, according to Transfermakt.

SIX KAIZER CHIEFS STARS FACE UNCERTAINTY

    Yusuf Maart

Since joining the Soweto giants from Sekhukhune United in June 2022, he has yet to replicate his old form. The Chiefs captain was, at some point, part of Hugo Broos’s Bafana Bafana. However, due to inconsistent performances, he was dropped.

The 29-year-old is out of contract in June 2025 and will be hoping to continue his momentum from Tuesday’s game against Richards Bay. He provided two assists and came close to scoring a goal as Chiefs won 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. His two assists bring his tally to seven in 70 games. He has also scored five goals during his time at Naturena.

    Edmilson Dove

The Mozambican defender was unfortunate to pick a long-term injury just after signing a one-year extension. The Mambas fullback survived the chop at the end of last season. However, with that extension ending in June 2025, the 30-year-old has the challenge of convincing the powers that be at Chiefs that he deserves a place in the team.

With Rushwin Dortley settling in well at left centre-back, Dove will find it difficult to claim a place in the team. His biggest letdown has been injuries. He has two goals in 46 appearances for the club.

CASTILLO IS AMONG SIX PLAYERS SET TO BE OUT OF CONTRACT AT CHIEFS

    Edson Castillo

When he was beginning to show flashes of brilliance, the 30-year-old suffered an injury that keeps him out for months. His biggest challenge could be that he may not have enough time to convince the club that he deserves to stay.

In an effort to bolster their squad, Amakhosi may look at some foreign players. And that would mean foreign spots would be essential to create. That could make him a casualty at the end of the season. The Venezuelan has often proved a goal threat, especially last season under coach Ntseki Molefe. He scored five goals and provided two assists in 37 outings.

    Ranga Chivaviro

Only one thing can keep a striker at a club. It’s goals. The 32-year-old’s first season at Chiefs was not the best. He played 27 and scored four goals.

The former Marumo Gallants hitman has started well this season, scoring three goals in eight games. For the first time this season, Ashley Du Preez got a start ahead of him. The former Stellenbosch FC forward was on target in the 2-1 win over Richards Bay FC. He must convince the club that he is the man to lead the line as they look to restore their glory days. Since joining the club last season, the former Marumo Gallants forward has scored seven goals in 30 outings.

    Lehlogonolo Matlou

Injuries have plagued the former South Africa youth international midfielder during his two seasons at Chiefs. This season, his third, he has not featured due to an injury.

Nonetheless, the club triggered the one-year extension on his contract at the end of June. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder is expected to be back in action early in 2025, giving him enough time to convince his technical team that he is worth keeping for the long haul.
