Springboks are winning on and off the pitch. We take a look at rugby’s highest paid players, detailing what they earn per season.

Several Springboks are among the game’s highest earners – that’s the result of winning back-to-back World Cups.

Ironically, even the most lucrative rugby contracts are a fraction of what many soccer players make, and it’s hard to argue that it isn’t the game with the oval ball where participants most put their bodies on the line.

In fact, that’s definitely the case.

    Top 10

    Finn Russell – $1.3 million

    Cheslin Kolbe – $1.13 million

Faf de Klerk – $1.1 million

    Siya Kolisi – $1.03 million

    Owen Farrell – $1 million

    Maro Itoje – $994,000

    Dan Biggar – $994,000

    Antoine Dupont – $900,000

    Tadhg Furlong – $850,000

    Handre Pollard – $768,000

    (Each salary is per season.)

    Update from Rassie

Following the Springboks Autumn Series whitewash over Scotland, England and Wales, Rassie Erasmus underwent surgery following a shoulder injury he had been hiding for months.

The Boks coach gave an update following the operation, saying, “I’m having a shoulder operation here, I’m not going to show the pictures because I don’t think it’s worth showing. All OK, I think I will be out of the hospital by the weekend.

“I hope you have a great time over the festive season. Fortunately, we have the URC now and some of the boys are playing, to all the fans I hope you have good holidays.

“Let’s stay nice and humble, support each other and help us keep our feet on the ground. We play for you guys and for South Africa, also for those abroad who understand and see what we stand for as the Springboks – I appreciate that a lot.

“At the end of the day, it is all just a game that we are all proud of. Merry Christmas and hope you all have a lekker festive time. I will probably only hop on Twitter next (year) again. Cheers.”
