Ange spoke to me” – Leyton Orient star Jamie Donley drops claim on Tottenham return

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Jamie Donley is currently thriving on loan at League One side Leyton Orient and feels he will return to NorthL on don as a better player.

The 20-year-old is playing a key role in the O’s push for the play-offs in the third tier this season, with his creativity and eye for goal making him one of the standout players in Richie Wellens’ side.

Donley has had a few memorable moments over the course of the campaign so far but the highlight probably has to be his long-range effort that resulted in the opening goal against Manchester City in the FA Cup earlier this month.

However, his full focus will now be on helping Orient achieve a top-six finish in League One, and he is going about it in the right way, having just recently fired home a well-taken volley to secure all three points away against fellow promotion-chasers Wrexham.

Donley’s performances at Brisbane Road will not have gone under the radar at his parent club, so he may have hope that he can be in the first-team picture during the 2025/26 campaign.

Jamie Donley speaks on Tottenham future

Donley has spoken about life at Spurs during an interview with The Mirror, in which he discussed following in the footsteps of Harry Kane, overcoming a difficult spell earlier this season, and his future under Ange Postecoglou.

“If I had even half the career that Harry’s had I’d be absolutely delighted,” said Donley.

“The fact that Kane started [at Orient] just goes to show that if he can go on to do what he’s done then anyone can.

“He’s my idol. I looked up to him even before I was anywhere near the first team.

“At Spurs, everyone is there to help you.

“I spoke to the people close to me with Spurs and my family in difficult moments and they just said stick at it.

“You see it at the top, top level with a lot of players: they have a few bad performances and it can take a lot out of them.

“It’s all about playing with confidence, which is maybe what I didn’t have in the first part of the season.”

    He added:

“I’ve said before in an interview that Ange spoke to me and said when I come back in pre-season just make sure you’re a better player when you come back in pre-season.

“I think I’ve definitely done that; I’ve learned off the experienced players that are here at Orient.

“I think time will tell, but obviously my focus is on the rest of this season. Then I’ll have my time off and we’ll see.”

Jamie Donley could be the next youngster to make an impact at Spurs

Donley is already following in the footsteps of Kane in the sense that his first loan move is at Leyton Orient, and he has already scored more league goals this season than the Bayern Munich striker managed during his time in East London.

He will be hoping that he can be the next young player to make an impact in the first team under Postecoglou, with the likes of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall having received plenty of opportunities this season.

Donley has shown that he possesses finishing ability, technical quality and maturity beyond his years this season, especially at League One level, so it seems as though Spurs have a real prospect on their hands.
