Tottenham defender to miss Manchester City match: Ange Postecoglou delivers injury update

Tottenham Hotspur take on Manchester City on Wednesday evening in a case of two clubs who have had their fair share of injury issues this season.

Over the past week, Ange Postecoglou has finally been given the chance to do what he has been waiting for over the past three months.

Tottenham had six days following their 1-0 win over Manchester United to prepare for the trip to Ipswich Town to spend plenty of time on the training pitch at Hotspur Way – something which has been rare in recent weeks.

Postecoglou gave his players two days off in advance of Tottenham’s 4-1 win at Ipswich to help press reset as he has had the luxury of welcoming back some of Spurs’ injured players over the course of the last three fixtures.

Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison and Wilson Odobert have come off the treatment table and back into the Tottenham first-team squad recently to give Postecoglou the ability to manage the game time of some players who were in need of a rest.

The North Londoners are looking to do a league double over their opponents with Tottenham having beaten Manchester City 4-0 at the Etihad in November.

Ben Davies ruled out of Tottenham vs Manchester City

Tottenham’s injury issues have certainly settled down over the past fortnight with Dominic Solanke, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison, Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin all still missing.

    MORE SPURS STORIES

There was a surprise on Saturday when Ben Davies was missing from the squad against Ipswich, with Archie Gray taking his place in defence to partner Kevin Danso and there hasn’t been a positive update on the Welshman.

In his pre-Manchester City catch-up with the official site, Postecoglou spoke about injuries:  “Good news, everyone who played (at Ipswich) got through really well.

It’s great that we could give guys like Madders and Pedro a bit of a rest and still be able to come on, and contribute, and get game time into Brennan and Destiny.

“They all came through really well. So, that means it will be a similar squad for tomorrow. We were hoping maybe Ben would be ready for this game, he won’t make it, but we’ve a seven-day break (after City), so, he’ll miss out.”

Tottenham need to hurt a wounded Man City side

In recent seasons, the prospect of facing a Manchester City side managed by Pep Guardiola makes even the most optimistic Spurs fan tremble, however, this year they have not looked like the same team which has dominated the Premier League over the past four years.

Liverpool and Real Madrid, two sides admittedly at the top of their game have comfortably swept aside City and Tottenham now need to capitalise on their recent confidence boost with yet another victory over the Premier League champions.

Erling Haaland’s absence has been a blow, and Rodri’s absence has been well documented – to the degree where you could even call City; the Rodri team – a phrase Pep will be fully familiar with.
