Rodrigo Bentancur looks set to become one of the highest paid players at Tottenham.
Bentancur joined Tottenham from Juventus in January 2022.
His time in North London has been disrupted by several serious injuries, while fans won’t exactly have been happy with some of the Spurs star’s actions as of late. However, in recent weeks, he has emerged as one of the first names on the teamsheet under Ange Postecoglou.
Therefore, while at one point recently it looked as though Bentancur could be headed for the exit door, it now appears as though the midfielder is going to be rewarded for his recent form.

As reported by Sami Mokbel via the Daily Mail (25 February), Tottenham have opened contract talks with Bentancur, with the midfielder’s current deal set to expire at the end of next season.
This could spell the end of the road for Yves Bissouma, especially if Tottenham are to pay Bentancur £150,000-per-week, which ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes could be the case.
“This has got to be an offer worth at least six figures,” King said.
“He is currently on £75,000-a-week, and we’re talking about a good player here. Therefore, Spurs are going to need to offer £125,000-a-week at least. However, that offer could reach as high as £150,000-a-week, especially when you see what players are earning today.

“I think he is worth that kind of money because he is a very good player. To buy someone of that quality is going to cost you at least £50million. Therefore, at the end of the day, a three or four year deal will only cost you around half that price.”

Tottenham would be wise to hold on to Bentancur
Bentancur is an experienced midfielder, and one of the more senior players in Spurs’ squad.
Therefore, keeping hold of him would be wise, as he could help some of the younger midfielders in North London, such as Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, with their development.
And he is still a quality player himself, who would be much more costly to replace than offer a new contract. Therefore, Spurs should pay what it takes to keep him, even if that is £150,000-a-week.
