Tottenham express interest in signing Benjamin Sesko but he has a huge price tag

Tottenham Hotspur are one of several Premier League clubs who could battle it out for a Bundesliga marksman with 17 goals to his name this season after some interesting details emerged regarding his contract.

It has been reported that even though they are expected to activate the option to sign Mathys Tel permanently in the summer, Tottenham are still expected to look for additional reinforcements to their forward line.

This is because Timo Werner’s loan spell comes to an end in the summer while question marks also remain over Richarlison’s future.

Now a fresh update has suggested that Tottenham have turned their sights towards a 21-year-old who is quickly establishing a reputation as one of the best forwards in German football.

Tottenham keen on RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko

This report comes from Florian Plettenberg, who explains that Benjamin Sesko is now a wanted man ahead of the summer window, with a release clause in the forward’s contract set to become active in June.

The Sky Germany reporter states that Spurs, Manchester United and Arsenal have all expressed an interest in the Leipzig forward, who has found the back of the net 17 times across all competitions this season.

Plettenberg states that the value of Sesko’s release clause this summer is tied to various parameters such as goals, assists and appearances, and it is thus continuing to go up.

It currently stands at €70m (£60m) but is expected to reach around €80m (£66.2m) by the end of the season, thus making him an expensive signing for any interested club.

Why Spurs are unlikely to consider a move for Sesko

Top-class number nines are difficult to find in today’s market, which is why a number of Premier League clubs will be happy to pay a premium for Sesko.

However, Spurs are unlikely to be one of those as Postecoglou prefers versatile forwards who can operate across the frontline rather than an out-and-out number nine.

It might not be a sound investment for the club to spend upwards of £65m for a player who can only ever play instead of Dominic Solanke.
