Tottenham add another ENIC director to the board despite fan protests

The Tottenham Hotspur fans who want to see the back of ENIC and Daniel Levy will not be pleased to hear who the club have now added to their board.

Over the course of this season, we have seen Spurs fans protest in the thousands calling for Daniel Levy and ENIC to leave. Many feel that the owners have prioritised the bottom line over on-pitch success throughout their tenure.

A fan group, Change for Tottenham, have announced plans for yet another Spurs protest at the start of April, which will be the third major one we have seen from the supporters this season.

However, the fans who want to see a reduction in ENIC’s influence will be peeved by the latest announcement made by the club.

Tottenham appoint ENIC’s Peter Charrington to the board

Tottenham have now announced that an ENIC director, Peter Charrington, will be joining the club’s board as a non-executive Director.

They explain that Charrington, who was formerly CEO of Citi Private Bank, will bring a “wealth of experience and networks from the corporate, financial and banking sectors.”

This means that ENIC’s influence is seemingly increasing rather than waning, which will not come as welcome news to a lot of Tottenham fans.

Charrington told the club’s website on his appointment: “Tottenham Hotspur is an iconic Club and I am incredibly honoured to be taking up a place on its board. I am looking forward to working closely with Daniel [Levy] and the board to help the Club achieve long-term success.”

What does this say about ENIC’s long-term plans?

This could perhaps be evidence that ENIC do not foresee a full sale of Tottenham in the near future.

Plenty of reports over recent months have claimed that a number of investors have held talks over a full takeover of Spurs, but nothing concrete has materialised.

This latest appointment could be a sign that ENIC do not expect to lose control of the club and are only anticipating a minority sale, if any at all.
