Nottingham Forest could move for Tottenham star Brennan Johnson

Tottenham still coexist with their inconsistency, as witnessed in both legs against AZ Alkmaar—finding it hard to find the net in the first before utterly overpowering the second.

Although it is evident Spurs require an overhaul in their squad over the summer window, it may also signal a departure of some players.

Brennan Johnson has been mentioned as a possible exit target, with a reputable journalist connecting him to a dramatic return to Nottingham Forest amid the backlash from Jamie O’Hara.

Tottenham pulled a stunning transfer move by acquiring Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest for £47.5 million in 2023. The club’s investment in the Welsh player was a result of the decision by Daniel Levy, the Chairman of the club, to reinforce the team’s offense following the departure of their world-class striker, Harry Kane, who was transferred to Bayern Munich for a sum of £100 million.

The lad, happens to be an easy target for the fans, fans always criticise him believing he always falls short of their expectations. Notwithstanding his occasional displays of brilliance, he is finding it hard to maintain his usual performance level.

So far, in this season, the Welshman has made a substantial improvement to his game, as he has already scored 14 goals and provided three assists in the same number of games for Spurs.

The Athletic’s expert on Nottingham Forest, Paul Taylor, has put forth an idea that Johnson could be one of the surprise returns to the City Ground in the summer.

The columnist seems to be pretty sure that Johnson’s motivation will be high enough to make the deal if Nottingham get to the Champions League this time.

Speaking to The Athletic during a Q&A, as relayed by NottinghamForestNews, Paul Taylor suggested that Johnson would likely welcome a return to Forest if they secure Champions League football.

However, he acknowledged potential obstacles, particularly the emergence of Anthony Elanga as an exciting replacement on the right flank.

Taylor highlighted Elanga’s impressive performances and questioned whether Johnson would fit into the current lineup. While adding another quality wide player or forward would benefit Forest, integrating Johnson into the squad remains an open question.

Jamie O’Hara, the former Tottenham midfielder and current talkSPORT pundit, has criticized Brennan Johnson again for failing to show enough on the pitch.

In the most recent case, the criticism came after Tottenham’s 3-1 victory over AZ in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie, on Thursday.

On talkSPORT, O’Hara went further to say that he understands Johnson has potential to finish on chances but gives an impression that he does not affect the game enough. He added that Odobert has more quality in comparison.

If Brennan Johnson leaves, Tottenham will need to find a replacement. However, the Welshman has consistently bounced back from criticism, proving his ability to rise to the challenge and regain his place in the game.
