Eagles QB Creating a Headache for Philadelphia Ahead Training Camp

The Philadelphia Eagles have certainly had a notable 2025 offseason. As expected, the 2024 Super Bowl Champions lost some key members of their team, both players and coaches, prior to and during free agency. However, what many didn’t expect was for a player to force his way out of Philadelphia.
At the end of May, edge rusher Bryce Huff forced the Eagles to trade him to the San Francisco 49ers. This came after Huff chose not to attend OTAs or mandatory minicamp after a bad 2024 season.
That said, Huff isn’t the only Eagle who has caused the team a headache this offseason. After a poor OTA and mandatory minicamp, the new quarterback addition, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, falls into the same boat.
Eagles Trading for Dorian Thompson-Robinson May Have Been a Mistake
After acquiring Thompson-Robinson and a fifth-round pick for Kenny Pickett earlier this offseason,
Philadelphia likely hoped he could secure the QB3 spot. Unfortunately, things don’t look to be trending that way.
Instead, sixth-round pick Kyle McCord seemed to be outshining Thompson-Robinson throughout OTAs and minicamp. According to Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green, during Eales’ mandatory minicamp, McCord fired a dart to a tightly covered Nick Muse for a touchdown during a goal-to-go situation.
He added, “It’s a very small sample size because they barely rep, but he’s been better than Dorian Thompson-Robinson this spring”.
Though this competition may not be going the way the Eagles front office would like it to go, it shouldn’t be surprising. During his time with the Cleveland Browns, Thompson-Robinson never really looked like an NFL quarterback. In two seasons, the 25-year-old completed 52.6% of his passes (121/230) for 880 yards, one touchdown, and 10 interceptions.
Expecting him to come to OTAs and minicamp and look any better was definitely stretching it. For Thompson-Robinson to have the best chance of being an Eagle in 2025, he must be using his off time to study film so he can impress during training camp and the preseason.
If Thompson-Robinson is unable to turn things around, this trade will be looked at as a miss within the organization.
