Man Utd agree record transfer with ‘medical booked’ for ‘mini Mo Salah’
On Friday, David Ornstein of The Athletic reported an offer of £71m had been accepted with £65m up front and £6m in add-ons. In a fresh update, Ornstein revealed Mbeumo’s medical had been booked for over the weekend with the Red Devils moving quickly to get the deal wrapped up.

United’s interest in Mbeumo has been documented since the start of the transfer window, with the Red Devils seeing two bids rejected for the forward before reaching an agreement. Now that an agreement has been struck, the Red Devils are moving swiftly to get the deal concluded.
Mbeumo made a move to Old Trafford his preference early in the window despite interest from Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

The £71m deal is a record for Brentford, whose previous biggest exit was Ivan Toney’s move to the Saudi Pro League last summer. Mbeumo’s transfer fee is almost double what Al-Ahli paid to sign Toney 12 months ago.
The Bees have played hard ball over the deal for Mbeumo. Initially they wanted around £62.5m for the forward but raised their asking price after Anthony Elanga’s £55m move to Newcastle United – which the Red Devils pocketed a sell-on clause for – and Noni Madueke’s £52m switch to Arsenal.

Mbeumo scored 20 goals and provided seven assists for Brentford in the Premier League last campaign. It is his best goal-scoring season since moving to England. Two of those goals contributions came in a 4-2 win over Newcastle United in December.
After that game, talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy said: “End of the season they [Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa] won’t be there. Mbeumo, when I look at what he is capable of, he is a mini Salah. Off that right-hand side, his left foot – he has got years [left in his career].”
Of the 17 teams who survived in the Premier League, United scored the second fewest goals in the last season. Adding Mbeumo along with Cunha will add a major goal threat for the Red Devils, which is something that mostly fell on Bruno Fernandes last campaign.
A striker is still required but giving that serious threat behind a number nine will give Ruben Amorim the tools to get United back challenging at the right end of the table.
