Tottenham transfer news: Following Harry Kane’s exit, Spurs could turn to a London rival for help in the summer window
With Harry Kane gone, there’s a large pair of boots for Tottenham to fill over the rest of the summer transfer window.
Ange Postecoglou’s side are relying on Brazilian international Richarlison to step up and deliver but given his previous campaign, they’ll want to continue finding options in the transfer market before deadline day arrives at the end of the month.
It’s not just up front where Spurs are looking to make deals either, with numerous central midfielders and defenders linked with them after what has been a good window so far having already brought in James Maddison.
So, with everything still up in the air, football.london have taken a look at the latest odds on SkyBet and here’s who the bookmakers believe Postecoglou’s side could go after next.
Romelu Lukaku – 6/4
It’s been an incredible saga for Romelu Lukaku over the summer period. Linked with Inter Milan and Juventus, neither move panned out which led to him being an outcast at Chelsea’s training ground. However, he might find his calling elsewhere in London under Postecoglou, whose side are favourites to land the Belgian.
Dusan Vlahovic – 3/1
Another striker option to replace Kane is Dusan Vlahovic, and with Spurs so desperate to find another frontman to pair with Richarlison, they’re once again favourites here although he’s most likely to stay at Juventus with odds of 1/2. He’d provide a history of goalscoring for the club in recent years and could be a top option if the club wants to splash out.
Wilfried Gnonto – 6/1
One more dramatic saga that has gripped English football over the past few weeks. Gnonto now refuses to play for Leeds United after the club’s relegation from the Premier League and despite signing a five-year contract upon his arrival, he’s now trying to force a move away and Spurs could capitalise on that. He looked smart and impactful during his games for the Whites last season and would be a nice addition to their squad.
Ollie Watkins – 7/1
Another proven frontman in the Premier League, Watkins’ 15 goals last season was a personal best for the Englishman but you have to imagine Aston Villa would fight for him to stay onboard under Unai Emery. There are more likely Kane replacements than Watkins but he’d be a fine addition nonetheless.
Conor Gallagher – 8/1
Lukaku is not the only player Chelsea might sell to their London rivals in this window, with Gallagher possibly on the chopping block following their additions of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. The 23-year-old is a pressing machine and could fit right into Postecoglou’s setup.
Jeremy Doku – 9/1
The rapid 21-year-old might be a target for Postecoglou’s side but they’re by no means the favourites. The Belgian winger is on the radars of Manchester City (13/8 favourites) as well as Chelsea and West Ham who are both 3/1. While Spurs are a bit further back than the other clubs, they’re still listed by the bookies as a potential option for Doku.
Kaoru Mitoma – 10/1
The Brighton superstar set the league alight in his breakout season in their previous campaign and would be a great way of making up the lost goals from Kane’s exit. He’d certainly cost a pretty penny though, as Brighton have been brutal in terms of sticking to their guns on price tags they’ve set on players. Other teams interested are Manchester City (7/2) and Newcastle (33/1).
Brennan Johnson – 10/1
After his combined 22 goals across Forest’s last two campaigns, the 22-year-old reportedly has a £50m price tag on his head but that won’t deter Spurs, who will have to fend off favourites Chelsea if they want to land the young star this summer.
Douglas Luiz – 12/1
Luiz was a surprisingly vital part of Aston Villa’s resurgence under Unai Emery last season and has been noticed by many of the ‘Big Six’. However, the bookies believe Spurs are still stuck behind favourites Liverpool at 7/1 and rivals Arsenal at 8/1. Still, a player of his calibre would bring good experience and defensive capabilities to the ranks.
Lautaro Martinez – 16/1
Spurs are third in a two horse race for Martinez. Chelsea and Real Madrid are far likelier options for the Argentinian frontman, and with the likes of Lukaku and Vlahovic at much shorter odds and arguably better players anyway, the long odds makes sense.
Aymeric Laporte – 20/1
After Christian Romero’s concussion substitution and the two first-half goals they conceded last week, Postecoglou might look at shoring up his defensive unit in the last few weeks of the window with a statement signing of five-times Premier League winner Laporte. An offer from Al-Nassr has reportedly been accepted by City for him so if they were to go after the 29-year-old, they’d need to go quickly.
Joshua Kimmich – 20/1
It was revealed earlier on in the summer that Bayern no longer see Kimmich as ‘unsellable’, meaning a whole hosts of teams on the lookout for a new central midfielder were linked to the German. With Liverpool favourites at 7/1, he’s not the likeliest candidate for Spurs to add to their midfield although they would have the spending power necessary to pull it off.
Scott McTominay – 20/1
The Manchester United midfielder was linked with a move away from Old Trafford when his partner-in-crime Fred left the club in what has been seen as a midfield revamp by Erik ten Hag over the summer. While his most likely destination is West Ham (13/8), both Everton (12/1) and Spurs are possible moves for him to make to stay in England’s top flight.
Emi Martinez – 33/1
Following Hugo Lloris’ exit over the summer, a huge staple of Tottenham’s dressing room is now gone leading them to sign Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli as their number one shot-stopper. It’s doubtful they’ll go to another Premier League club to challenge Vicario for his place in the side which is why the odds are so high for a move to swoop in for Emi Martinez.
