“Agreement has been reached”, “set to join” – Romano confirms Tottenham have agreed a deal for 23-yr-old

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham and Leeds United have reached an agreement for the purchase of Djed Spence.

The Spence to Leeds rumors have gained momentum in recent days, and it now appears like the two clubs have reached an agreement on a loan arrangement.

Romano claims that a £1 million sum has been agreed upon, and all that is needed is the player’s approval.

    As he tweeted:

Djed Spence is scheduled to transfer from Tottenham to Leeds Utd on loan; the two teams have reached an agreement today.

£1 million loan fee, player approval required soon, and we’re off!

Tottenham apparently wanted to sell the player permanently, but the only bids that were made were for loans.

He was not only interested in being loaned to Leeds United. Swansea City and Bristol City were also interested in him, but Leeds United has taken the lead.

They have now added Joe Rodon and Spence to their loan roster, removing two players from Tottenham’s salary list.

Spence paid over £20 million to join Tottenham at the beginning of the last campaign, but he has not received enough playing time to demonstrate his talent.

He was hired by former Tottenham manager Antonio Conte, who later acknowledged in the press that the player was not a personal favorite but rather a club signing.

After Pedro Porro, a first team starter for Ange, was signed in January, he further slipped down the pecking order.

Spence now has an opportunity to shine at Leeds in the hopes that he can force his way into the Spurs lineup for the upcoming campaign.

It seems quite unpleasant that a football game at Craven Cottage would break Fulham’s hectic final week of the transfer window. The Whites host Tottenham Hotspur in the second round of the League Cup this evening, inspired by that remarkable comeback against Arsenal on Saturday. Both managers have promised to rearrange their lineups and give a few fringe players some playing time.

The two teams will only have met four times in the League Cup before to tonight’s game. In December 1982, Spurs defeated Malcolm McDonald’s team in front of 30,124 spectators in Fulham’s largest home game since they were demoted from the top division in 1968. The victory helped Spurs secure promotion from the Third Division.

On a remarkable night in December 1999, Paul Bracewell’s Whites memorably eliminated George Graham’s Tottenham, who were the reigning champions at the time. A Spurs team that featured players like David Ginola, Ian Walker, Sol Campbell, and Tim Sherwood was utterly outplayed. Barry Hayles, a lifelong admirer of Tottenham, scored first before Steffen Iversen equalized. Within a minute, Wayne Collins gave Fulham the lead again, and with 14 minutes left, Geoff Horsfield scored an incredible third goal by easily getting past an ineffective offside trap.

Hayles, a frequent goal scorer against Tottenham (including in our fantastic 3-0 victory at White Hart Lane in 2003), scored Fulham’s goal in the fourth-round match against us in 2001 to offset Sergei Rebrov’s opening goal, but Simon Davies scored a fantastic winner at the Cottage – a preview of the Welsh winger’s and our future.
