French club criticizes England for the “violent tackle” that injured a Rugby World Cup player.
Following Josua Tuisova’s injury during their Rugby World Cup quarterfinal, Top 14 side Racing 92 has criticized England flanker Tom Curry.
Tuisova began the crucial knockout game for Fiji and participated in the game for 72 minutes before needing to be substituted due to a knee injury.
The formidable 29-year-old was in excellent form for the Flying Fijians as they advanced past the pool rounds, eliminating Australia from the competition.
Racing 92 angered by Curry’s tackle
He was in comparable shape during the quarterfinal matchup with England before getting hurt in the 18th minute after taking a crash ball following a lineout.
Curry tackled Tuisova without using his arms, and while the TMO flagged it for a foul and issued a penalty, the challenge was not flagged for a card.
Tuisova was able to play through to the end of the second half, but he is now out for a while.
Racing 92 will now have to wait longer to see the outstanding defender in action after acquiring Tuisova from Lyon prior to the World Cup.
In a statement that also took a passive-aggressive dig at Curry, the team confirmed Tuisova’s injury.
The statement said, “Last Sunday, October 15, during the England-Fiji game that counted for the third quarterfinal of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, the Fijian center of Racing 92 Josua TUISOVA experienced a brutal tackle without the arms of the English player no7, thus damaging his left knee.
“To assess the length of his absence, the player will seek expert advice in the upcoming days.
“Racing 92 hopes Josua TUISOVA recovers quickly and offers him all of its support during this time,” it says.
Difficult World Cup for Tuisova
The setback caused by the injury is yet another setback for Tuisova during this difficult time.
The center learned of his son’s tragic passing prior to the pool-stage match against Georgia.
Despite the feelings, he would go on to give a spectacular performance against the Georgians and would ultimately skip the funeral the following Saturday.
