Micah Richards says he actually felt sorry for 29-year-old Tottenham player after watching him play vs Wolves

Following the loss on Saturday, Micah Richards has now acknowledged his sympathy for Eric Dier of Tottenham Hotspur.

During his appearance on the podcast “The Rest Is Football,” Richards acknowledged that he believed Tottenham’s defense, led by Diier, was solid for the most part of the match.

But when it came to the crucial moments, the pundit acknowledged that Spurs were missing their customary formidable tandem of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

Richards felt Dier and Ben Davies played well, but they were unable to hold up to the pressure in the last few minutes.

“I just thought they lacked something,” he remarked.

“They really did defend well for a good portion of the game, so I felt a little sorry for Eric Dier, but it was really tough to come in with Davies and Dier when Romero and Van De Ven were there and they had that partnership.

“They were unable to hold on.”

Naturally, this means that Ange Postecoglou’s extended team will face many challenges in the upcoming weeks and months.

Even though it seemed like Postecoglou’s first eleven had absorbed his message very fast, there were always questions regarding his depth of skill.

Now a leader in their back line, Eric Dier was a player Tottenham were happy to let go in the summer.

In a similar vein, James Maddison’s Spurs lack a suitable replacement.

Only one transfer window has Ange Postecoglou spent with his new team, and even that one was hampered and overshadowed by the Harry Kane drama.

In the immediate future, Postecoglou might do better to focus on his academy.

In all honesty, Jamie Donley might be the best choice to take James Maddison’s place as the playmaker.

Furthermore, after joining in the summer, Ashley Phillips now appears to be about to start his first senior game for the team.

Eric Dier will get better for Tottenham, and considering the circumstances he found himself in, Richard should definitely be sympathetic to him at the moment.

If the players in Postecoglou’s squad are unable to adjust to their new manager’s style, there are still options available.

This international break is undoubtedly highly appropriate for Ange and his team to thoroughly evaluate the circumstances.
