Tottenham attempts to hijack a transfer Manchester United are desperate to pull off already look to have run aground, according to a trusted source.

It is believed that both teams will be looking to add a new center-half in the upcoming month. The fact that Spurs only have three experienced, established center backs in their lineup is what piques their interest.

Out of the three, Micky van de Ven is now out due to a hamstring injury, while Cristian Romero is always susceptible to receiving a suspension.
The final member of the triumvirate, Eric Dier, is disliked by Ange Postecoglou. Moreover, according to the Mirror, chairman Daniel Levy is willing to sell Dier the next month in order to guarantee the club receives payment. Dier’s deal expires in just six months, after which he will become a free agent at the conclusion of the season. While there are doubts around many of their players, Man Utd does not lack numbers in the position.

Erik ten Hag’s most reliable backup at the back, Lisandro Martinez, is still sidelined due to a foot ailment.

Last summer, Man Utd attempted to sell Harry Maguire and even took a £30 million offer from West Ham. When necessary, Victor Lindelof offers appropriate depth; nonetheless, a number of publications, such as the Daily Mail, Independent, and Guardian, have reported that Raphael Varane is for sale.

In other news, Jonny Evans, 35, may not receive a contract extension when his agreement ends in the summer of next year. On the other hand, it is evident that Willy Kambwala, a new rookie, lacks experience.

Jean-Clair Todibo of Nice is a player that both United and Spurs had their sights set on.

Man Utd and Tottenham both hot for Todibo

Regardless of position, The Mirror previously stated that Todibo, 23, is Man Utd’s top transfer target for January.

It has also been predicted that the ownership of Nice by Sir Jim Ratcliffe will help United seal a deal.

But Football London and Fabricio Romano both stated that Tottenham had begun negotiations with Nice about a January raid. Spurs had already communicated with the player directly before doing that.

It has been stated that a bid in the €40 million range is necessary to complete a sale. With the fact that Todibo has been a key member of Ligue 1’s most formidable defense thus far, it may easily prove to be a great investment.

Todibo has been the cornerstone of Nice’s defense, which has allowed only nine goals to be scored in 17 games this season.

However, reliable reporter Ben Jacobs claims that Tottenham has little chance of capitalizing on Man Utd’s anticipated transfer.

Why Tottenham hijack has stalled revealed

Todibo to Spurs on X, Jacobs explained why, saying, “Spurs currently pessimistic anything possible in January after opening talks.”

The logic for that assertion was revealed in a follow-up post by Jacobs, who said it’s just an issue of cost. “Spurs won’t be able to spend too big,” the reporter said.

The north London club also has Lloyd Kelly (Bournemouth) and Radu Dragusin (Genoa) as targets. Trevoh Chalobah of Chelsea, a summer transfer target for the team, has allegedly fallen off Tottenham’s radar.

Now that Tottenham is unable or unwilling to spend the money, the focus will return to Man Utd in regards to Todibo.

After making his debut for France earlier in 2023, the right-footed player has two caps to his name. Todibo would fit right in.
