    Top-seeded Michigan advanced to their first College Football Playoff championship game with victory over Alabama in the Rose Bowl, and will face Sugar Bowl winners Washington, after they saw off Texas to claim victory

    Top-seeded Michigan defeated Alabama 27-20 in the Rose Bowl on Monday to advance to its first College Football Playoff title game. Blake Corum scored a 17-yard touchdown on the second play of overtime.

     

    When Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe tried to sneak up the middle on fourth down from the Michigan 3, Michigan’s defense decisively stopped him, ending only the second overtime game in the 110 Rose Bowls.Top-seeded Michigan defeated Alabama 27-20 in the Rose Bowl on Monday to advance to its first College Football Playoff title game.     With 1:34 remaining in regulation, Roman Wilson scored for the Wolverines, who had not scored in the second half until that tenacious 75-yard drive captained by JJ McCarthy.In the first extra frame, Corum scored in only two snaps.On third-and-goal in overtime, Milroe found Jermaine Burton at the Michigan 3, and Alabama’s quarterback was called upon for the winning play. But two yards shy of the goal line, Milroe ran into a waiting Michigan defense.

    Sugar Bowl – Washington 37-31 Texas

    After Michael Penix Jr. completed 430 yards of passing with two touchdowns, Washington defeated Texas in the Sugar Bowl to advance to the College Football Playoff title game. This victory gave the struggling Pac-12 and the sixth-year quarterback, who has had two surgeries on his knees, one more game together this season.Next Monday night in Houston, the second-ranked Huskies (14-0) will take on No. 1 Michigan in an attempt to win their first national championship since 1991 and the first Pac-12 title since Southern California in 2004. Ten universities, including Washington, will be leaving the Pac-12 for other Power Five conferences in the upcoming academic year. The Huskies will join Michigan in the Big Ten.
