“FINALLY”: Bears GM Ryan Poles reveals why he didn’t fire Matt Eberflus

Is Matt Eberflus able to elevate the Bears from their mediocre season to something greater?

The Chicago Bears, who finished the 2023–24 season with a losing record, are making adjustments.

Regarding third-year quarterback Justin Fields, the Bears must make a choice. In addition, they no longer work with Luke Getsy, the offensive coordinator. Matt Eberflus’s decision to stay with the team was explained by Ryan Poles.

Ryan Poles discusses the Bears’ choice to maintain Matt Eberflus.

Many observers and fans doubt Matt Eberflus’s ability to guide the Bears to success. In his first season in Chicago, the team’s record was 3-14. The Bears started the 23–24 season 0–5, but Eberflus inspired the group to end 7–10 overall.

Ryan Poles and the Bears executive leadership made the decision to retain the head coach for a third season in light of everything that has transpired. Poles cited Eberflus’ exceptional attributes as the reason the team decided to retain him.

“I felt we benefited from his ability to adapt and change as we went along—he had a sudden change in his role.” According to Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic, Poles stated, “We got better from that point on.”

Poles has publicly praised Eberflus for his unwavering presence in the locker room despite Chicago’s unspectacular football run. He led the Bears to five victories in their last eight games and assisted in the defense’s gradual improvement throughout the season.

To assist Chicago in getting over the hump and advancing to the postseason, Eberflus has a lot of areas that need to be addressed. Specifically, the offense has been mediocre. Luke Getsy was cut by the Bears already, but will Justin Fields stay with the team for another season?

The Bears’ decision to retain Matt Eberflus has divided Chicago fans, but there is hope that the team can build on their success this season and get better in 2024.
