Ex-Ravens QB Gets Into a Social Media Fight With Former Coach

On Monday, January 15, former Baltimore Ravens quarterback Robert Griffin III and his former coach Jay Gruden engaged in a social media feud that lasted the entire week. The Philadelphia Eagles vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers playoff game served as the catalyst for the two’s argument.

Jay Gruden wrote on his X (previously Twitter) after witnessing Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts being harassed: “I apologize if I ever put a QB through what Philly is putting Jalen through.” Grab a blitz!

His replies were littered with criticism of the way he handled Griffin and with tags for Griffin’s X account.

Griffin replied, “Say WHATTTT???” along with a photo of himself. But the relationship between the two did not stop there.

Gruden shot back right away, asking, “You weren’t prepared, Robert?” “You told me you didn’t know how to coach a QB who could throw and run like me, so looks like you weren’t prepared Jay,” Griffin retorted in response to this.

In a sharp retort that has since been removed, Gruden stated, “You weren’t good enough.”

    Cousins Kirk was superior.

The Browns in Cleveland didn’t want you. Baltimore didn’t either. Give up blaming me.

Jay Gruden & Robert Griffin’s Relationship Has Always Been Rocky

In 2014, Griffin’s third season with the Washington Commanders (then the Redskins), Gruden took over as head coach.

During his podcast “The Ones,” Griffin discussed his relationship with Gruden, but he focused on one particular memory in particular.

“There was an event in D.C. that is clearly remembered,” he stated. I was undressed at a press conference by Jay Gruden, in a way that a coach shouldn’t ever undress their starting quarterback.

At a news conference, Griffin discussed how “the best guys in the NFL having guys around them.” The quarterback talks about how his head coach and the media have been criticizing him for “throwing his teammates under the bus.”

Griffin did disclose, nevertheless, that Gruden ordered these remarks made. Griffin said, “What people don’t know is that Jay Gruden asked me to go to that press conference and say what I said to challenge my teammates through that press conference.”

Griffin claimed that being abandoned and ignored by his own coach was the thing that hurt the most.

Gruden, according to Griffin, had “zero integrity.” Due to an injury, Griffin lost his job to Cousins in 2015 and was never given the opportunity to win it back.

After the 2015 season, Griffin was let go by Washington and Gruden.

Robert Griffin’s Rookie Year May Have Changed His Career’s Trajectory

In 2012, Griffin was selected by the Washington team with the second overall pick, under Mike Shanahan’s coaching staff.

For Washington, he was a game-changer right away, helping the team win the NFC East division. As a professional quarterback, Griffin was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year.

During his rookie season, Griffin would suffer a controversial knee injury against the Ravens.
