Recent injury updates for Liverpool, involving Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Trent Alexander-Arnold
Following his return to team practice on Tuesday, Mohamed Salah appears certain to be included in Liverpool’s lineup for their Premier League away match against Brentford on Saturday.
Since leaving the 2-2 draw between Egypt and Ghana on January 18 due to a hamstring injury, the 31-year-old forward has not played. Since Liverpool’s 4-2 thumping of Newcastle United at Anfield on New Year’s Day, he hasn’t appeared on the field.
However, he could play for the Reds for the first time in six weeks on Saturday at the G-Tech Community Stadium after returning to team practice on Tuesday.
Nevertheless, it appears that Dominik Szoboszlai and Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss out. The most recent information on injuries can be found here.
Mohamed Salah
If all goes well between now and Saturday, Salah should be part of Liverpool’s travelling contingent that takes to West London over the weekend. Salah took part in team training at Kirkby on Tuesday and was involved in rondos at the AXA Training Centre.
Should he return, it would be a timely boost for the Reds, who face Chelsea at Wembley in the 2024 League Cup just eight days later.
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Following Jurgen Klopp’s confirmation that Alexander-Arnold had experienced a recurrence of the knee injury he sustained against Arsenal last month, the defender is in a race against time to be fit for the League Cup final later this month.
Alexander-Arnold was substituted at halftime against Burnley on Saturday, and the ECHO said on Monday that he was still awaiting the results of a scan.
As was to be expected, the No. 66 did not participate in team training on Tuesday afternoon at the AXA Training Centre.
Anticipated date of return: Unknown
Dominik Szoboszlai
The Hungarian midfielder has missed Liverpool’s last two games due to a worsening hamstring injury, which kept him out of action following the Reds’ New Year’s Day 4-2 victory over Newcastle. In order to be fit for the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea on February 25, the number eight is currently running out of time.
“Dom is running outside right now in the winter rain, and he is not ready for tomorrow, of course not,” stated Klopp. Then, we must observe. As is usually the case with tendon issues, the player experiences no pain for a short while before returning to his previous level of muscle soreness.
“That’s obviously really not good that he got that again. He didn’t feel a great issue, but when you see then the pictures, you just have to take him out and now we are fighting for days, if you want. Is it Brentford, is it the [Carabao Cup] final or is it after the final? I don’t know in the moment.”
Expected return date: Unknown
Thiago Alcantara
Unfortunately, midfielder Thiago has already been reunited with his close friends in Liverpool’s medical team after suffering a fresh muscle injury against Arsenal. Thiago had only recently returned to first-team action following a lengthy spell out.
During his Friday press conference, Klopp stated, “Thiago is obviously not cool.” In training, everything looked fantastic. It’s a muscle problem; the severity is unknown at this time. There is some waiting involved, which is obviously not cool. The news was truly bad for him, us, and everyone else. Not to mention that the game has already been lost, that is not good.
Indeed, I do anticipate that he will play again this season, but at the moment we are just taking care of the injury, getting a thorough evaluation done, and figuring out where it originated. If he hadn’t been absent for so long, it would just be routine business and not a major story. That’s the reality. It’s obviously not something anyone needed, but it’s not a big, big injury either.
Date of anticipated return: Unknown.
Stefan Bajcetic
Following several injury setbacks, Stefan Bajcetic’s young Anfield career has seen a trying time. He had a terrific rookie season last year, but it ended too soon after he had a stress reaction in his adductor in March.
After sustaining a calf injury, Bajcetic made a comeback in September with appearances in the Carabao Cup and Europa League. However, that participation turned out to be his final one. When he will resume full training is still unknown.
Anticipated date of return: Unknown
Joel Matip
Joel Matip, who injured his anterior cruciate ligament, is recuperating from surgery. The 32-year-old, who has just a few months left on his Liverpool contract, will probably miss the remainder of the campaign. After an off-the-ball incident, the center back was injured in the 70th minute of the thrilling 4-3 Premier League victory over Fulham in December.
Anticipated date of return: Unknown
Ben Doak
Ben Doak suffered a major knee injury while playing for the under-21 team, which has forced him to miss time. About Doak’s condition, assistant manager Pep Lijnders remarked, “That’s not a good one.” He requires surgery because he tore his lateral meniscus.
“That one will require more time. He is young, physically fit, and optimistic, so it is likely that he will return stronger. However, we need him to return with the same intensity and passion that he did when he was playing the ball. We’ll hold out for him.
