‘Real belief’ – Ange Postecoglou  showers praises on players after win over Palace

Speaking to the press after today’s crucial win over Crystal Palace, Ange Postecoglou revealed how happy he was with the players for their efforts, and insisted his side did exactly what was needed to win the game.

Today at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, an exciting second half ensued after a goalless first half, but Spurs had to overcome a late deficit to win the three points once more.

On the hour mark, Eberechi Eze scored a beautiful free-kick to give Crystal Palace the lead, although the goal was very much against the flow of the game.

After 80 minutes, Spurs took the lead thanks to some outstanding work from Brendan Johnson, who set up Timo Werner for his first goal for the Lilywhites. James Maddison then lofted a ball in for Cristian Romero to nod in.

Late in the game, Heung-min Son delivered a beautiful finish to make it 3-1 and seal all of the points.

Spurs had to be patient to beat Palace

In his post-match press conference (via Football.London), Ange Postecoglou hailed his team’s persistence and patience in getting the all-important win.

He said: “Yeah I was [pleased with the team keeping pushing on]. I was pleased with the whole game. First half was difficult for us because when a team sits so deep and we had to initiate the play, we had to stay really patient and make sure you work the opposition and I felt we did that.

“We didn’t create a lot but we had a couple of great chances. You need that goal to break open a team that is going to sit so deep. I still felt like we were putting enough work into them that at some point we would be able to break them.

“Unfortunately, we lost, which was unfortunate because they didn’t really pose a threat to us other than the free kick. You were hoping for a response, and I felt that you got one quite well. They simply had a genuine belief in our procedures and football today, and I’m quite happy with the result.

It was difficult to see how we wouldn’t tie the game or win even after falling behind. We proved to be too much for Palace, and our superiority soon became apparent.
