£22m star’s move to Spurs this season collapsed because of ‘stubbornness’

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson in recent months.

The 25-year-old defender has been linked with a move to the Premier League for months, but the transfer has not worked out.

A report from the Turkish publication Aksam claims that Tottenham were seriously interested in signing the Danish defender at the start of the season and their interest was intense.

However, the move collapsed because of the Turkish club’s ‘stubbornness’. Apparently, Galatasaray were holding out for a fee of around £22 million and Tottenham did not want to pay that much.

The report further states that West Ham United are keen on signing the defender for next season and it will be interesting to see if they can convince the Turkish outfit to lower their asking price.

Eventually, Tottenham acquired players like Ashley Phillips, Radu Dragusin, and Micky van de Ven. Van de Ven and other players have shown promise thus far, and in the upcoming months, Dragusin intends to solidify his position as a major participant. Phillips is still a long-term prospect in the interim.

It is unclear whether Nelsson will be able to complete his move to the Premier League at the end of the current campaign, but he will be quite sad to have missed out on a chance to join a team like Tottenham. He should consider West Ham, especially given that they are a European contender.

Pundit claims two Spurs players would look comfortable in the Man City side

Pat Nevin thinks James Maddison and Micky van de Ven would both look completely at home in Manchester City’s starting eleven.

Even though Madison had already created a name for himself as one of the Premier League’s most inventive midfielders, it’s possible that some people were unaware of his true talent until the 27-year-old moved up to Tottenham last summer.

Now that he is surrounded by better players, the England international has raised his game and is prospering in Ange Postecoglou’s system as number 10.

Although many people may not have been surprised by Maddison’s performances, Van de Ven’s performance definitely has caught many off guard, with the Dutchman taking to the Premier League as few centre-backs have over recent years.

The 22-year-old has shown tremendous composure on the ball and an ability to read the game but it is his incredible pace that has been the x-factor, enabling Postecoglou’s men to play a highline without fears of being caught out by a ball over the top.

Van de Ven and Maddison could get into Man City XI

Nevin named the Tottenham midfielder and centre-back among a list of six underrated players in the Premier League.

He stated to the BBC Football Extra newsletter (7:02 pm, March 4, 2024) in response to the question of who in the division is underappreciated: “It is difficult to find someone who is underrated right now because players get so much exposure.” It’s not hard to identify current players who are wildly overrated!

“Usually, when I make a judgment call, I ask myself if the player would look at home if they were playing for a team like Man City?

“I would rank James Maddison and Micky van de Ven at Spurs, Kaoru Mitoma and Billy Gilmour at Brighton, in that category. There are a few more, including Michael Olise at Palace and Eberechi Eze.

“Well, those are some possibilities, but do they deserve more credit? Perhaps it’s just that I think so highly of these players.

Madison Maddison may not be underappreciated in my opinion, but it seems that many opponents’ supporters and commentators are beginning to recognize Van van Ven’s exceptional talent.

Cristian Romero is the Spurs player who is most likely underappreciated; the Argentine may still be thought of as careless even though he consistently puts up incredibly impressive performances.
