Throughout Larry Bird’s NBA journey, he succeeded in every role he attempted. As a player, he had one of the greatest careers of all-time; the 12-time All-Star won three championships, three MVP awards and two Finals MVP awards. Then, after retiring, the Hall-of-Famer thrived as a head coach and general manager with the Indiana Pacers. Bird became just the second person in NBA history to be honored as Coach of the Year and Executive of the Year (joining Pat Riley). Bird coached the Pacers from 1997 to 2000, going 147-67 in the regular season and 32-20 in the playoffs. Indiana advanced to…

I want to talk to you today about secret frustrations. We can be blessed in many areas, with good health, good family, a good job, but then just have one thing that’s not right. One temptation we can’t seem to overcome. One thing in a relationship that’s not fulfilling. Or maybe one nagging health issue. Nobody can see it. On the outside we seem fine but on the inside we’re frustrated. I talked to a lady last week. She volunteers as one of our prayer partners. She and her husband have been believing to have a baby for many years…

Technical proficiency is, of course, an important facet for any musician, but it’s not why we listen to music. With AC/DC, Angus Young has wheeled out a rather simple formula from the very start. However, it is laden with so much attitude and energy that people can recognise it and identify it in an instant. With only a handful of chords, tricks and tones, Young has invented a beloved sound and style that is entirely his own. The same can be said of Jimi Hendrix. Of all the reasons to marvel at the ‘Purple Haze’ musician, one pivotal factor seems to be…

SAN DIEGO – Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was suspended for Saturday night’s game by Major League Baseball for his role in an altercation with San Diego Padres manager Andy Green the night before. Roberts was also fined an undisclosed amount. Green and Dodgers pitcher Alex Wood were fined, too. The discipline was announced a few hours before the teams played the middle game of a three-game series. “It’s what Major League Baseball felt was the right course of action, so I support it,” Roberts said. Roberts had to leave the ballpark by game time Saturday. He said he…

The Houston Rockets made the re-signing of veteran point guard Aaron Holiday official, who will return to the franchise for his second consecutive season. The Houston Rockets announced Saturday afternoon that point guard Aaron Holiday has been re-signed. As first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic on July 1, the Rockets and Holiday have agreed to a two-year deal. Holiday originally signed with the Rockets in July 2023. He played 78 games for Houston last season. But despite the need for more consistent minutes, Holiday displayed his talents each time coach Ime Udoka called upon his number. Holiday averaged 6.6 points…

The Blues have one of the best and most underrated prospect systems in the NHL The St. Louis Blues are in organizational limbo. They missed the postseason by a single point last season, but they never stood out as a contender. They also aren’t quite bad enough to be in the running for the 2025 first-overall pick. Where the Blues can hang their hopes is their prospect pool. They aren’t mentioned in the top systems, but they deserve more respect. The organization has quietly accumulated one of the best crops of young forwards not playing in the NHL. Three players make the…

In a row house in a working-class London neighborhood 40 years ago, a young boy was given a clarinet by his father. The boy failed miserably on the instrument. Had he succeeded, he might never have tried the guitar a few years later, and we might still be listening to Paul Anka, wearing butch wax hairdos and believing everything our parents and politicians told us. The boy was Pete Townshend,  and he has had as much to do with hard, pure, angry, irreverent, loud rock and roll–and all that it wrought–as anyone else. Townshend became the leader of the Who,…

The 1984-1996 crime drama sensation Murder, She Wrote is getting the motion-picture treatment, courtesy of Universal Pictures’ Amy Pascal-produced Murder, She Wrote movie. The original Murder, She Wrote TV show starred Angela Lansbury in an era-defining role as Jessica Fletcher — the sleuthing murder-solving mystery novelist, as she unearthed foul play across the Maine town of Cabot Cove. Murder, She Wrote was a huge success and influenced almost every crime drama that’s followed since, with Lansbury receiving an Emmy nomination for every season. Despite the lasting legacy of Murder, She Wrote and how much Lansbury’s Jessica Fletcher is entrenched in the history of fictional detectives, there’s been few attempts to reinvigorate the…

I’m told the number one problem facing people today is grief and loneliness. People encounter major losses in their lives, and sadly, many never get over them. When tragedy occurs and the hurt seems unbearable, Satan sees an opportunity to try to bring a family or an individual into permanent bondage. The death of a loved one, divorce or the severing of a close relationship can cause grief, and most people go through a grieving process. The key to victory is understanding the difference between a normal, balanced grieving process and a spirit of grief that will try to attach…
