A rising talent in South African rugby looks increasingly likely to have a big role to play for the Springboks during the 2025 Test season. During the Springboks’ international season last year, the one position where there seemed to be some uncertainty was at No 8. Jasper Wiese is probably still seen as the first-choice eighthman, but Elrigh Louw also showed some encouraging signs when deployed in this role. Evan Roos also received a couple of opportunities without quite making the most of them, while Kwagga Smith offers stop-gap back up. Yet one of the most exciting prospects in South…

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Bradley Carnell is a big fan of Njabulo Blom. The two worked together at St Louis City SC at the start of the 2023 season where Carnell was also coaching. Blom, who was signed from Chiefs, enjoyed a good start to his career in the Major League Soccer (MLS) but a change in personnel saw the Bafana Bafana midfielder fall down the pecking order. Having been loaned to…
Chelsea allowed last summer’s signing, Felix, depart the club on loan to AC Milan January. The Portuguese’s game time at Stamford Bridge was largely limited to the UEFA Europa Conference League and the domestic cups, although he has made a fast start to life with the Rossoneri with a debut goal against AS Roma in the Coppa Italia last week. Sergio Conceicao has been initially impressed with the player’s attitude and form for the club, while Enzo Maresca bullishly responded to Felix’s early impression at San Siro by claiming that the Blues ‘don’t miss’ him. In spite of the former Atletico…

Elliot Daly touched down and Fin Smith kicked the conversion as the Red Rose snatched a 26-25 success to end the visitors’ Grand Slam hopes. While there were plenty of errors, particularly from the French, which led to a number of scrums, it proved to be a thrilling Six Nations encounter. World Rugby’s target World Rugby have looked at ways of speeding…
Kaizer Chiefs management did not have a day off in January. Mduduzi Mdantsane’s announcement departure was nearly forgotten. Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi is one of those tacticians who prefer to work with smaller squads. Bulls hooker Akker van der Merwe’s dream to represent the Springboks are still alive and well, despite heading into his golden playing years. The 33-year-old made his Test debut back in 2018 against Wales when Rassie Erasmus took the reigns from Allister Coetzee in a 20-22 defeat in Washington DC. He went on to play two further Tests in a victorious series against Eddie Jones’ England at the time – with all three of his Test appearances coming off the bench. Now seven years later, ‘the angry warthog’ as he’s fondly known made it clear that he came back to…
Mathys Tel posts two words on Instagram after losing 4-0 on his Tottenham debut last night Tottenham Hotspur crashed out of the Carabao Cup after losing 4-0 against Liverpool at Anfield. Ange Postecoglou’s side went into the game on Thursday night with a 1-0 lead from the first leg. That was a big advantage, but the players barely showed any desire to win the second leg. Tottenham looked nothing like their usual attacking selves. They sat back for large parts and invited continuous pressure from the hosts, who took complete advantage. Spurs are out of the cup now, but their fans…
