Spurs have reportedly inquired about signing a “special” Premier League striker to replace Harry Kane, but there’s an obstacle.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly asked Brighton about the possibility of signing Evan Ferguson this summer.

That’s according to TEAMtalk, with the outlet claiming that Spurs are exploring the possibility of replacing Harry Kane with Ferguson.

Kane completed a switch to Bayern Munich on Saturday after his future had dominated the headlines all summer.

The 30-year-old is expected to be a massive miss for Spurs and the club have already been linked with a host of names as they bid to replace their all-time top goalscorer.

The likes of Gift Orban, Brennan Johnson and Jonathan David are all reportedly of interest to Tottenham.

But a fresh report claims Spurs have now made their move to sign Evan Ferguson.

    Tottenham ask about Ferguson

TEAMtalk reports that Tottenham have made an enquiry to see if Brighton are willing to offload Ferguson this summer.

It’s noted that Spurs intermediaries have made contact over the Brighton star’s availability.

But the Seagulls are apparently unwilling to even acknowledge interest in the 18-year-old.

Ferguson impressed at the Amex Stadium last season as he netted nine times in 25 appearances.

The Republic of Ireland international has already got off the mark this season too as he scored in a 4-1 win over Luton Town yesterday.

He’s been labelled a ‘special’ talent and would certainly be an exciting option for Ange Postecoglou.

But given he signed a new contract back in April, it’s difficult to see Brighton being open to selling the youngster.

We’ve already seen the kind of fee they demanded for Moises Caicedo this summer and Tottenham won’t be willing to match those figures.  VIEW MORE:

‘GO OUT AND SIGN HIM’: SKY PUNDIT TELLS TOTTENHAM TO BUY 27-YEAR-OLD STRIKER

Sky Sports pundit Michael Dawson has said that Tottenham Hotspur should try to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney as a replacement for Harry Kane.

The former Tottenham Hotspur defender has said on Sky Sports News (12:18pm, August 12, 2023) that Spurs should go all out and sign Ivan Toney from London and Premier League rivals Brentford.

Dawson has noted that Toney is not available to play until January due to a ban.

The pundit said: “Look, he can’t play at this moment in time. I said he could go up to Manchester United. Ivan Toney. Go out and sign him.”

Tottenham Hotspur unlikely to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney

In our opinion, Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford either in the summer transfer window or in January 2024.

First of all, Spurs are unlikely to pay a lot of money to bring in a player who is not going to play until January.

And when Toney does get back in January, we cannot expect the 27-year-old to hit the ground running.

It is likely to take the striker a few weeks to get fully match fit.

Could Tottenham really wait that long?

Moreover, Toney himself might not be keen on a move to Tottenham after just returning from a ban.

The striker might want to end the season with Brentford and finish his time at the Bees on a positive note and then leave next summer.

Toney has made 68 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

The striker has scored 32 goals and given nine assists in those games.
