Chelsea news: The Blues visit the London Stadium on Sunday looking to earn their first win of the Premier League season and the Hammers could hand two debuts out
West Ham United will look to hand debuts to new signings James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez against Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend.
Alvarez arrived from Dutch giants Ajax at the end of last week but missed the 1-1 draw at AFC Bournemouth. Ward-Prowse completed his £30million move from Southampton earlier this week and supporters will get the chance to see the duo in action for the first time against the Blues on Sunday.
Both players are the Hammers’ only new arrivals this summer despite the £105million departure of Declan Rice to Arsenal. Gianluca Scamacca and Nikola Vlasic have also left with the west Londoners pursuing a move for Ajax’s Mohamed Kudus.
West Ham boss David Moyes has confirmed both Alvarez and Ward-Prowse are in contention to make their first appearance for the club, with the former Manchester United boss providing the latest team news from Rush Green.
“I’m not too sure we’ve got anyone unavailable,” Moyes declared. “I think everybody is available. Both James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez are available for Sunday.
“James has Premier League experience and has scored and assisted goals throughout his career. If he does that for us then he will add value to what we’ve already got.
“We hope Edson will bring us something as well. We’re enjoying working with him and I hope both will be really positive signings for us.”
Lucas Paqueta is also expected to retain his spot in West Ham’s side amid ongoing speculation linking him with a move to Manchester City. Reports on Friday suggested that the champions deal to sign the Brazilian is currently on hold, with Sky Sports suggesting that there is a 90 per cent chance the deal is off.
