“It didn’t work” – Daniel Levy admits to making a big strategic mistake

On a fan forum, Daniel Levy acknowledged that he had previously made poor employment decisions.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham was a legit team. He had worked hard for years to assemble a world-class squad.

They played appealing football and had a distinct personality, consistently finishing in the top four.

Multiple times under his leadership, they also came extremely close to taking home a trophy, and in his final campaign, they nearly defeated Liverpool in the Champions League final.

Levy has now acknowledged that the club modified its policy and began employing “win now managers” rather than project managers after Pochettino was fired as a result of that incident.

When questioned about the events of the previous few seasons and the paucity of awards that resulted from them, Levy responded (via ROTS1882):

We were so close with Poch, but we changed our approach and hired win-now management; it didn’t work because we made the incorrect hires.

The longer it takes, the more likely it is that we need this plan, which is why I recruited Ange.

They brought in managers like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, neither of whom were successful with the team.

Instead, the team lost the identity it developed under Pochettino and ended up playing some of the league’s least interesting and uninspiring football.

Both of their terrible man management techniques had an impact on the atmosphere within the camp.

The club took their time finding a replacement after Conte was let go.

They were linked to several high-profile candidates, like Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique, but ultimately chose to choose Ange Postecoglou, who is arguably the least popular of the bunch.

And it turned out to be a brilliant choice. At the club, Ange Postecoglou has already had a significant impact. He improved the atmosphere.

He has forged a unique connection between the coach, the players, and the supporters. The players enjoy playing for him, and they are producing some of the league’s most visually appealing football. In just a few months, all of this.

Even though Ange hasn’t yet been able to totally rebuild the team, the players he has brought in are world-class additions.

The old Tottenham appears to be returning for the first time under Ange, and there is no doubt that the future is exciting.
