BOMBSHELL: World Rugby launches investigation in allege racism by Springbok hooker

defeated semi-finalists The incident, in which Springbok hooker Bongi Mbonambi allegedly referred to one of England’s players with a “racial slur,” has drawn complaints from the English team, and World Rugby is now looking into it.

WHAT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN SAID DURING THE INCIDENT

In what was a classic semi-final arm-wrestle, the Springboks pushed deep to clinch a 16-15 victory against England and move to the Rugby World Cup final in 2023.

However, while South Africans are still recovering from the exhilaration of the nail-biting triumph, England has made an astonishing claim against one of the most prominent and powerful members of the Springboks’ squad, compelling SA Rugby to take action.

Mbonambi allegedly branded England center Tom Curry a “white c***,” according to Curry.

Curry’s question to Ben O’Keeffe, which was caught up by the referee’s microphone, was: “Sir, sir, if their hooker calls me a white c**t, what do I do?” Referee O’Keeffe answered, “Nothing, please.”

Curry later reported that something offensive was said to him, despite the fact that there is no aural proof of Mbonambi’s alleged assault.

It doesn’t need to be discussed, he said, declining to go into more detail about what transpired.

A SPRINGBOK investigation has begun in South Africa rugby.

The investigation into the event was confirmed by SA Rugby, the country of South Africa’s national rugby regulatory organization, on Sunday.

WORLD RUGBY REVIEWING BONGI-CURRY INCIDENT 

And while there’s been no official comment from the England camp, they have decided to take the matter further by lodging a complaint with World Rugby.

On Monday afternoon, World Rugby issued a statement regarding the alleged discriminatory language used by Mbonambi against Curry.

“World Rugby takes all allegations of discriminatory behaviour extremely seriously.

“We can confirm that we are formally reviewing the allegation made by England’s Tom Curry in relation to the use of discriminatory language during the England versus South Africa Rugby World Cup 2023 semi-final on Saturday.”

World Rugby will not be making further comment until the conclusion of the process.”
