Last month, Jacques Nienaber led the Springboks to their second consecutive World Cup victory. However, in April, he had declared that he would be taking on a new position with the Irish team Leinster following the competition in France.
Steve Borthwick’s England will welcome Felix Jones, an assistant coach, to the team.
Four years ago, after winning the World Cup as a coach, Erasmus assumed leadership of South Africa’s rugby department. He is now back to assist them in getting ready for the 2027 World Cup as they aim for a triple crown.
But his impact was never distant from the team as the Springboks won a record-tying fourth World Cup, beating New Zealand 12-11 in the championship match last month.

Erasmus was banned by World Rugby in 2021 after he went on an hour-long tirade against the organization and its referees while analyzing their first Test loss to the British and Irish Lions. Erasmus won the World Cup in 2019 before taking over as South Africa’s director of rugby, Rassie.
Erasmus has reportedly stated that he will assume Nienaber’s responsibilities, according to the South African daily Rapport, with the goal of attempting an unprecedented third consecutive World Cup victory in 2027.
Though he has occasionally courted controversy, Erasmus is admired in South Africa for his inventiveness, tactical sense, and capacity to extract the greatest performance from the players at his disposal.
