    • Leinster will welcome Jacques Nienaber, who won the World Cup with South Africa.
2019 saw the Springboks win it again under head coach Rassie Erasmus.
His impact has persisted on the team even after he was appointed director of rugby.

After confirming to local media on Sunday that he will be taking up the position he held when the team won the World Cup in 2019, Rassie Erasmus will serve as South Africa’s head coach going forward.

Last month, Jacques Nienaber led the Springboks to their second consecutive World Cup victory. However, in April, he had declared that he would be taking on a new position with the Irish team Leinster following the competition in France.

Steve Borthwick’s England will welcome Felix Jones, an assistant coach, to the team.

Four years ago, after winning the World Cup as a coach, Erasmus assumed leadership of South Africa’s rugby department. He is now back to assist them in getting ready for the 2027 World Cup as they aim for a triple crown.

But his impact was never distant from the team as the Springboks won a record-tying fourth World Cup, beating New Zealand 12-11 in the championship match last month.

Erasmus, who won the World Cup in 2019 before becoming South Africa's director of rugby Rassie, was banned by World Rugby in 2021 after he launched into an hour-long rant at the organisation and their referees as he dissected their first Test loss to the British and Irish Lions

Erasmus has reportedly stated that he will assume Nienaber’s responsibilities, according to the South African daily Rapport, with the goal of attempting an unprecedented third consecutive World Cup victory in 2027.

Though he has occasionally courted controversy, Erasmus is admired in South Africa for his inventiveness, tactical sense, and capacity to extract the greatest performance from the players at his disposal.

Following the British & Irish Lions’ defeat in the opening test of the 2021 series, he posted a video criticism of Australian referee Nic Berry, which resulted in a lengthy match-day ban from World Rugby.

Erasmus has additionally faced criticism for remarks he made on social media that disparaged opponents.

    But his ability is undeniable.

Erasmus responded to an anonymous account who had outlined 'questionable calls' in South Africa's 22-17 loss to the Lions in the first Test

Erasmus addressed a user who described “questionable calls” in South Africa’s first Test match defeat by the Lions, which ended 22–17.

As former assistant coach Matt Proudfoot put it to Sport24, “Where Rassie is very good is looking at the cause of the problem and saying, ‘this is what we need to fix’.”

“He never sleeps looking for that advantage; he is driven by that process.”

“What is the one thing that will make a difference? Cassie has a unique ability to see what is fundamental to the issue.”

Assistant coaches Mzwandile Stick and Deon Davids, as well as scrum coach Daan Human, are expected to remain in their roles along with head of athletic performance Andy Edwards.
