The Springboks have extended their heartfelt gratitude to the people of South Africa following an incredible four-day World Cup trophy tour.

As the Springboks wrapped up their four-day trophy tour on Monday, captain Siya Kolisi thanked the nation’s ardent rugby fans on behalf of the team, stating that they had seen a “united nation” in the previous few days.

After defeating New Zealand 12-11 in the final of the Rugby World Cup in France last weekend, the Springboks began a tour with the Webb Ellis Cup through Gauteng, Cape Town, Durban, and East London on Thursday. In each of these cities, throngs of people lined the streets to welcome the back-to-back champions.

As a team, the Springboks set out to inspire hope among the people of South Africa. However, Kolisi added, “Those who greeted us upon our return from France, as well as those who supported us throughout the trophy tour routes and airports, gave us hope and inspired us to keep showing that you can achieve anything regardless of your upbringing, race, religion, or background.”

“We stated prior to the Rugby World Cup final matchup with New Zealand that we were representing the more than 60 million South Africans, and the incredible support we have seen up close during the trophy tour over the past few days is truly remarkable.”

“Seeing the scenes when we returned home following the World Cup in 2019 was special, but this welcome was beyond compare.

“With tens of thousands of people from all walks of life in all four provinces running next to the bus and cheering us on, we witnessed a united nation, and we hope we can continue to see this in society as well. We said we wanted to use rugby to help build the nation.”

“The Springboks may only take the field again next year, but the lessons we’ve learned over the last few days will continue to motivate us as a team,” Kolisi continued.

Once more, we regret not being able to visit every province and community; however, due to our need to return to our clubs, it was not feasible. Nonetheless, we are aware that we would have gotten the same fervor and support in every province.

“South Africa, thank you very much. You are loved by us.
